Box Score 2 COLUMBIA, Ky. -- Neither game needed seven full innings as the Lindsey Wilson College softball team swept Midway (Ky.) College 8-0 and 11-3 in a pair of six-inning games at Lindsey Wilson Park on Wednesday.
Pitching was the story of game one as Anyibell Ramirez, who earned the win, Emily Poynter and Morgan Paschall combined to one hit the Lady Eagles. Paschall earned the win in game two, pitching 2.2 innings of scoreless softball, despite allowing 11 hits combined with Poynter and Emillee Bush.
Third baseman Caren Alexander went 2-for-2 in game one with a run scored and an RBI, while designated player Lindsey Bridges finished 2-for-3 with an RBI, a run scored and a walk. Second baseman Kristen Spear and Ramirez both doubled for the Blue Raiders.
After a scoreless first inning, Lindsey Wilson (19-8, 7-3 MSC) tallied two runs in the second and four in the third to take control of the game. Midway (2-8, 2-2 KIAC) never scored the rest of the game, allowing a pair of runs by the Blue Raiders in the sixth inning to give them a 8-run lead that ended the game by mercy rule.
Game two started off slower as both teams battled to a 1-1 tie after a run by the Lady Eagles in the top of the third inning. The bottom of the third, however, belonged to the Blue Raiders as they sent across four runs. Bridges boosted the offense with a home run, finishing 2-for-4 at the plate with two RBI and a run.
While Poynter started and threw 2.1 innings and Bush closed the game throwing 1.0 inning, it was Paschall in the middle that dominated the game. The junior struck out three batters, allowing just one hit and no earned runs in 2.2 innings.
Lindsey Wilson scored two runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings to push its lead to eight once again to end the game. First baseman Kelly McCarty impressed down the stretch, going 2-for-3 at the plate with three RBI, a run and a walk.
The Blue Raiders return to action at 1 p.m. CT on March 27 against Pikeville (Ky.) College at Lindsey Wilson Park.
