Box Score 2 PIKEVILLE, Ky. -- The Lindsey Wilson College softball team swept a doubleheader today at Pikeville (Ky.) College.
The Blue Raiders (36-11, 20-6 in the Mid-South Conference) won the opener 1-0 and the nightcap 10-1 to win their 16th and 17th road games of the season. The 17 road wins eclipses the program record of 15 wins set in 2000 and 2009.
Saturday's two wins gives the Blue Raiders the season sweep. Lindsey Wilson won in Columbia 5-0 and 4-1 on March 27.
In today's opener, junior pitcher Anyibell Ramirez struck out 16 Pikeville (10-26, 2-18 MSC) batters to help the Blue Raiders to the 1-0 win. Ramirez allowed just two hits in the complete game shutout.
Pikeville's Whitney Compton matched Ramirez in the circle allowing just a single run on three hits while striking out 10.
Junior catcher Ally Goniea doubled home the game-winner in the sixth inning. Ramirez and sophomore Kelly McCarty recorded the remaining Lindsey Wilson hits in the game.
In the nightcap, the Blue Raiders exploded for eight runs on five hits in the fifth inning to win 10-1 in five innings due to the mercy rule.
Goniea, sophomore Lindsey Bridges and freshman Alexis Rodgers each drove in two runs for the game.
Bridges first RBI came in the top of the second with a solo home run. She added a second RBI with a ground out in the decisive fifth inning. Rodgers collected three hits in the game and scored three times.
Junior pitcher Morgan Paschall allowed a run and two hits in her five innings of work. She struck out five Pikeville hitters.
Lindsey Wilson returns to action at 2 p.m. CT on Sunday, April 18, as the Blue Raiders host Cumberland (Tenn.) University at Lindsey Wilson Park.
