Box Score 2 COLUMBIA, Ky. -- Game one took just six innings as the Lindsey Wilson College softball team built an 8-0 lead to take a mercy-rule win against Cumberland (Tenn.) University, followed by a 6-2 win in game two on Sunday at Lindsey Wilson Park.
Anyibell Ramirez was nearly unhittable pitching for Lindsey Wilson in the opener, throwing 6.0 innings with 14 strikeouts while allowing just one hit. Ramirez - who walked just one batter - only faced 19 batters in the win.
Morgan Paschall picked up the win in game two in a different fashion, using the help of her defense to put out Cumberland (17-24). Paschall struck out just five batters in 5.1 innings, but also only allowed four hits with just one walk.
Emily Poynter entered the game in relief in the fifth inning, striking out four batters, but also allowed two earned runs before Paschall reentered in the seventh inning to finish off the win.
Jordan Gilland was perfect in game one, going 3-for-3 at the plate with a home run and three RBIs. Jamie Williams finished 3-for-4 with an RBI, two runs scored and a triple.
Lindsey Wilson (38-11) led just 2-0 heading into the fifth inning of the opener, but tallied three runs in both the fifth and sixth innings to bring the game to a close.
Williams was the offensive leader in game two, going 2-for-3 at the plate with a home run, two RBIs and a run scored. Left fielder Alexis Rodgers helped earn the win with a 2-for-4 performance that allowed her to score a pair of runs.
The Blue Raiders jumped ahead 2-0 in the first inning, then added three runs in the fifth to take a 6-0 lead. Cumberland responded with a pair of runs in the top of the sixth but never seriously threatened the Lindsey Wilson lead.
Lindsey Wilson returns to action at 5 p.m. CT on Friday, April 23 against Trevecca Nazarene (Tenn.) University at Lindsey Wilson Park.
