COLUMBIA, Ky. -- With a sweep of the University of the Cumberlands (Ky.) on Sunday, the Lindsey Wilson College softball team wrapped up the Mid-South Conference Regular-Season Championship and helped itself to the No. 1 seed at next week's MSC Tournament at Millennium Park in Danville, Ky.

The doubleheader against Cumberlands was scheduled for Saturday, but storms in the area forced the games to be postponed to Sunday. Play resumed in the top of the fourth inning with the Blue Raiders leading 5-2.

No other runs came across in the opener as Lindsey Wilson held on for the 5-2 win. Anyibell Ramirez earned the win with Morgan Paschall throwing Sunday's portion of the game. Ramirez also got the start in game two, helping Lindsey Wilson to a 7-0 shutout win to seal the conference championship.

In both games combined, Ramirez threw 10.0 innings with 22 strikeouts (16 in game two), while scattering just five hits, including only one in the second game. Paschall pitched the final four innings of the opener with seven strikeouts and just one hit allowed.

Lindsey Wilson took control of game one in a hurry, posting a 5-0 lead after the second inning. Left fielder Alexis Rodgers was dangerous at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two runs, a double and a stolen base.

Catcher Ally Goniea joined Rodgers as the only other multi-hit performer for the Blue Raiders, finishing 2-for-3 with an RBI.

The Patriots catcher, Erica Meguiar, paced them at the plate, going 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored.

Lindsey Wilson spread out its scoring in game two, adding a run in all but the third and sixth innings. After opening the game with a 1-0 lead in the first, the Blue Raiders got a big third inning with three runs and a strong showing in the fifth with two more.

Both first basemen Kelly McCarty and second baseman Jordan Gilland belted home runs for Lindsey Wilson, while left fielder Megan Huckaby kept the base paths hot, swiping a pair of back-to-back stolen bases.

Third baseman Jamie Williams, McCarty and designated player Lindsey Bridges all doubled for the Blue Raiders. McCarty had a monster game at the plate, going 2-for-2 with three RBIs, two runs scored and a walk.

The double-elimination MSC Tournament begins on Friday, April 30 and lasts through May 2 in Danville, Ky.

Lindsey Wilson opens the tournament at 9 a.m. CT on Friday against No. 8 seed West Virginia University Tech. With a win the Blue Raiders will play their next game at 3 p.m., or 1 p.m. with a loss the same day.

• With two games left in the regular season, Anyibell Ramirez has set new school records in strikeouts (315) and shutouts (11). The current record for lowest earned-run average is 1.17 and Ramirez currently holds a 0.84 ERA.
• Ramirez's 17 strikeouts against West Virginia Tech on March 13 ranks tied for fourth all-time in the NAIA.
• Ramirez is currently 12th all-time on the NAIA regular-season pitching records list with 315 strikeouts.
• Lindsey Wilson is ranked first in the NAIA in total batters truck out (469), while Ally Goniea is ranked first in the nation in total chances (501) and total putouts (461) and Anyibell Ramirez is the nation's leader in total strikeouts.
• As a team, the Blue Raiders rank second in the NAIA in earned run average (1.14), strikeouts per game (9.6) and fielding percentage (0.973). Lindsey Wilson is limiting its opponents to the fourth lowest batting average in the NAIA of .178.
• The regular-season conference championship is the first ever for Lindsey Wilson. The Blue Raiders have finished second in the league two times (2007, 2004).
