COLUMBIA, Ky. -- It took a game longer than it wanted, but the Lindsey Wilson College softball team ultimately got its prize with the Mid-South Conference Tournament championship after a 7-4 win against Campbellsville (Ky.) University on Friday at Lindsey Wilson Park.

The Blue Raiders hoped to have the conference title wrapped up after the first game of the night, however Campbellsville had other plans, taking a 3-1 win in the opener.

With both teams having one loss in the tournament, the Blue Raider's 7-4 win eliminated the Tigers and gave them their first MSC Tournament championship since 2005.

After opening the day with the tough loss, Lindsey Wilson opened game two with a bang, provided by a Kelly McCarty grand slam in the bottom of the first inning.

Left fielder Alexis Rodgers started the game off with a single, followed by a bunt by right fielder Megan Huckaby that she reached base off of on a wild throw by the Campbellsville pitcher, while Rodgers came around to score the opening run.

Catcher Ally Goniea reached base on another error and second baseman Jordan Gilland reached on a walk, setting up McCarty for her big swing of the bat. McCarty's blast flew over the right-field fence, giving Lindsey Wilson a 5-0 advantage after the first inning.

Lindsey Wilson finished its scoring in the third inning as shortstop Jamie Williams singled, then cruised home on a wild pitch. Gilland also singled and made it home on a batted ball by center fielder Emily Carnes to take a 7-2 lead.

The Tigers' Emily Napier homered in the fifth inning and Morgan Bullock scored on a batted ball in the seventh, but it was all Campbellsville could muster, taking the 7-4 loss.

Anyibell Ramirez earned the win for Lindsey Wilson, throwing 5.2 innings with 11 strikeouts, while scattering just four hits. Morgan Paschall started the game and only allowed two hits, however one was a two-run home run in the second inning.

Allison Horton - starting her third straight game of the day - took the loss, throwing 6.0 innings with only two strikeouts, but also allowing just five hits and one earned run.

In the win, Williams finished 1-for-3 with two runs scored, while Gilland went 1-for-2 at the plate with two runs scored and a walk.
