Box Score 2 PULASKI, Tenn. -- The Lindsey Wilson College softball team opened its 2011 season with a pair of wins today at the Martin Methodist (Tenn.) College Meltdown.
The Blue Raiders beat Freed-Hardeman (Tenn.) University 9-2 in their opener of the six-team, three-day round robin event. Lindsey Wilson finished the day with a 1-0 win over Reinhardt (Ga.) University.
Lindsey Wilson junior Jamie Williams belted a pair of home runs and drove in five runs to help the Blue Raiders beat Freed-Hardeman. Junior Mikaila Etheredge added three hits in her Blue Raider debut.
A trio of Lindsey Wilson pitchers slowed the Freed-Hardeman offense in the win.
In the nightcap, Lindsey Wilson senior Anyibell Ramirez hurled a complete-game shutout to lead the Blue Raiders to the 1-0 win. Ramirez struck out 17 Reinhardt batters while allowing just two hits en route to the win.
Etheredge provided a RBI double that proved to be the game winner.
Lindsey Wilson (2-0) returns to action at 9 a.m. CT on Sunday, Feb. 20, as the Blue Raiders face McKendree (Ill.) University in the first of two games. Lindsey Wilson completes its play in the MMC Meltdown at 1 p.m. CT against the host RedHawks.
