Box Score 2 ROME, Ga. -- The Lindsey Wilson College softball team won twice today at the Shorter University Invitational to remain perfect on the season. The Blue Raiders improve to 6-0 following wins over Milligan (Tenn.) College and Reinhardt (Ga.) University.
Lindsey Wilson beat Milligan 1-0 in its opening game of the Shorter Invitational and finished tonight with a 4-3 win over Reinhardt for its second win over the Eagles in the last week.
In the first game, Lindsey Wilson senior pitcher Anyibell Ramirez struck out 16 Milligan (4-8) hitters en route to the complete game, one-hit shutout.
While Ramirez was dominant in the circle, sophomore Alexis Rodgers and junior Jamie Williams provided the only run the Blue Raiders would need.
After a scoreless five innings, Rodgers singled and scored on Williams' RBI hit in the top of the sixth to give Lindsey Wilson a 1-0 lead. That's all Ramirez would need to pick up her fourth win of the season.
In the Blue Raiders' nightcap, junior Mikaila Etheredge's two-out RBI single helped Lindsey Wilson to a 4-3 win over Reinhardt (10-3).
Ramirez earned her fifth win of the season and her second of the day in relief of senior starter Morgan Paschall.
Paschall allowed all three runs on three hits in her four innings of work while Ramirez recorded six strikeouts in her three innings of work.
Tied at 3-3 entering the bottom of the seventh, Williams opened the bottom half of the final inning with a walk. Following a pair of ground outs that moved Williams to third base, Etheredge delivered the game-winning hit to give the Blue Raiders the 4-3 walk-off win.
Etheredge finished the game 2-for-3 at the plate with a home run and two RBIs. Senior Ally Goniea and junior Kaylee Garrett each added two hits in the win.
Lindsey Wilson returns to action at 10 a.m. CT on Saturday against No. 18-ranked Brenau (Ga.) University in the Blue Raiders final game of the Shorter Invitational.
