Box Score 2 GULF SHORES, Ala. -- The Lindsey Wilson College softball team won twice today at the Gulf Shores Invitational to remain unbeaten in the prestigious tournament hosted by the University of Mobile (Ala.).
The Blue Raiders (16-1) beat the host and No. 25-ranked Rams 5-0 in their opener today and completed the daily double with a 2-0 win over Oklahoma Baptist University.
The win is Lindsey Wilson's 10th straight and propels the Blue Raiders to the No. 2-seed in tomorrow's Gold Bracket. Lindsey Wilson receives a bye in the 10-team tournament and faces sixth-seeded Auburn University Montgomery (Ala.) -- who beat seventh-seeded Central Methodist (Mo.) University tonight -- at 11 a.m. CT. The championship of the Gold Bracket -- the top bracket of the three brackets -- is scheduled for 5 p.m. CT on Sunday.
Lindsey Wilson scored four times in the third inning and the pitching combination Anyibell Ramirez and Morgan Paschall combined for the six-hit shutout in the 5-0 win over the Rams.
Lindsey Wilson junior Jamie Williams provided the game-winning hit in the third with a two-out, two-run single to give the Blue Raiders the 2-0 lead. Senior Ally Goniea's triple down the right field line to plate Williams and later scored on junior Emily Priar's single to give Lindsey
Wilson the 4-0 lead.
The third inning explosion would be all the Blue Raiders would need as Ramirez picked up her 10th win in 11 decisions this season. The senior hurler allowed just four hits while striking out seven batters in six innings of work. Paschall recorded the final three outs while allowing two hits in a scoreless seventh inning.
Lindsey Wilson ran its winning streak to double digits with a 2-0 win over Oklahoma Baptist in its nightcap on Saturday.
Priar and sophomore Alexis Rodgers provided the RBIs in the win while junior Amy Harner had a team-high two hits.
Paschall (6-0) picked up the win going 3-2/3 innings without allowing a run on four Bison hits. Ramirez picked up her second save of the season allowing just one baserunner -- a seventh inning walk -- while striking out nine Bison in relief.
In tomorrow's tournament action, the Blue Raiders potentially could face NAIA No. 24-ranked Auburn-Montgomery and with a win would face the winner of No. 7-ranked Lee (Tenn.) University and No. 20-ranked Columbia (Mo.) College in the semifinals. In the upper half of the bracket awaits NAIA No. 3-ranked William Carey (Miss.) University, No. 18-ranked Brenau (Ga.) University -- the only team to beat the Blue Raiders this season -- and No. 19-ranked University of Houston-Victoria (Texas).
