Box Score 2 COLUMBIA, Ky. -- The Lindsey Wilson College softball team mustered just nine hits on the day as 17th ranked Madonna (Mich.) University beat the Blue Raiders 1-0 and 3-1 on Sunday in the LWC/Campbellsville University Softball Classic at the Lindsey Wilson Sports Park.
Lindsey Wilson's (21-4) home record falls to 8-2 as the Crusaders handed the Blue Raiders their first losses at home of the season.
Madonna (19-4) finished the day with just nine hits as well, but handed senior pitcher Morgan Paschall her first loss of the season in game two, dropping her to 8-1 on the season.
Anyibell Ramirez was the loser in game one, even though she struck out a program-record 20 batters in eight and 1/3 innings of work. The problem was Madonna's Jess Irwin was nearly just as good, striking out 16 batters and allowing just three hits in nine innings.
Sophomore left fielder Alexis Rodgers drove in the lone run in game two, scoring junior right fielder Megan Huckaby in the bottom of the seventh to bring Lindsey Wilson within two at 3-1.
Junior shortstop Jamie Williams was at the plate with runners on first and third and two outs where she fouled off six straight pitches and two more later in the bat before striking out looking to end the game.
Game one went into extra innings where Madonna was able to use the international tie-breaker rule to score the only run of the game and beat the Blue Raiders. Lindsey Wilson had a great chance to tie the game when junior centerfielder Amy Harner hit a shallow single to center, but senior pinch runner Kristen Spear was thrown out at the plate trying to score the tying run.
While the Blue Raiders managed just three hits in game one, Harner accounted for two of them with Rodgers collecting the other hit.
Lindsey Wilson returns to action at 1 p.m. CT on Tuesday, March 22 at the University of Virginia's College at Wise.
