Box Score 2 COLUMBIA, Ky. -- The Lindsey Wilson College softball team belted four home runs and allowed just two runs in two games as it swept the University of Rio Grande (Ohio) 5-0 and 9-2 in sixth innings on Saturday at the Lindsey Wilson Sports Park.
Juniors Jamie Williams and Amy Buwalda and sophomore Lauren Seibert and Jordan Gilland all hit home runs for the Blue Raiders. Seibert finished 4-for-6 at the plate with the homer, three RBIs, four runs scored, a stolen base and a double.
Williams also went 4-for-6 for Lindsey Wilson, knocking in three runs and scoring three of her own. The shortstop also stole a pair of bases in the wins.
Third baseman Jaymie Rector and first baseman Anna Smith led the RedStorm, with both going 2-for-3 in game two with each knocking in a run.
Seniors Anyibell Ramirez and Morgan Paschall earned the wins in the circle for the Blue Raiders. Ramirez struck out 12 and allowed just one hit in seven innings in game one, while Paschall struck out six and allowed seven hits in five innings in game two. Just one of the RedStorm runs were earned against Paschall in the 9-2 win.
Ramirez entered the game to pitch in the top of the sixth inning, but threw just one pitch before the game was called by the umpires due to unsafe playing conditions from the steady rain.
Lindsey Wilson scored two runs in the first inning of game one that ended up being enough for the win. The Blue Raiders still added another in the third and two more in the fifth to record the 5-0 win.
The offense took longer to produce in game two, with Lindsey Wilson striking first in the third inning with one run. After adding three more in the fourth inning, Rio Grande fought back with two runs in the fifth to pull within 4-2.
Any thoughts of a RedStorm comeback were put to rest in the bottom half of the inning as Buwalda capped off a five-run inning with a two-run shot to put the Blue Raiders in control 9-2 before the game was called.
Lindsey Wilson returns to action at 4 p.m. CT on Thursday, March 31 against Campbellsville (Ky.) University at the Lindsey Wilson Sports Park.
