Box Score 2 COLUMBIA, Ky. -- Anyibell Ramirez became the sixth player in NAIA history to throw 19 strikeouts in a single game as the Lindsey Wilson College softball team swept the University of the Cumberlands (Ky.) 6-0 and 9-1 in five innings in the Mid-South Conference regular-season opener on Monday at Blue Raider Stadium.
Ramirez went the distance to pick up the win in seven innings, moving to 7-1 on the season. The only hit the Patriots came up with against the senior was a bunt single by centerfielder Erin Sears that catcher Ally Goniea bobbled to allow her to reach first.
Ramirez struck out 14 consecutive batters before Sears' hit and didn't walk a batter while posting the school record in strikeouts.
Sophomore Alexis Rodgers led Lindsey Wilson at the plate in game one going 4-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI. Junior shortstop Jamie Williams hit a pair of home runs as she finished with three RBIs. Williams also hit a home run in game two, giving her seven on the season.
Senior Morgan Paschall earned the win in game two to move to 5-0 on the season as the Blue Raiders put together an eight-run lead in five innings to tally the run-rule win. Paschall allowed just one hit and struck out six batters.
Junior third baseman Emily Priar had a perfect game at the plate, going 3-for-3 with two RBIs and a run. Rodgers kept up her hot hitting with three hits and another run scored.
Junior right fielder Megan Huckaby delivered the game-winning single in the bottom of the fifth inning on a hard-hit ball to centerfield that scored junior first baseman Kaley Garrett and Ramirez who was pinch hitting.
Cumberlands scored its only run of the day in the top of the fourth inning when Williams misplayed a ground ball hit to third base, allowing shortstop Tabitha Benson to score on the error.
Sophomore Jordan Gilland played her first game at home this season after missing the last six contests with an injury and came up with three hits. Williams went just 1-for-3 in game two, but still tallied a pair of RBIs and runs.
Lindsey Wilson returns to action at 2 p.m. CT on March 11 against Cumberland (Tenn.) University at the Gulf Coast Invitational in Orange Beach, Ala., hosted by the University of Mobile (Ala.).
