Box Score 2 COLUMBIA, Ky. -- The 19th ranked Lindsey Wilson College softball team used home runs from Ally Goniea and Kaylee Garrett in game one and a shutout pitching performance from Morgan Paschall in game two to sweep Campbellsville (Ky.) University 4-3 and 2-0 on Thursday at Lindsey Wilson Park.
Goniea finished with two hits, two RBIs and a run scored on her line-drive home run in the bottom of the fourth inning of the opener for Lindsey Wilson (27-4, 8-0 MSC). Garrett went 2-for-4 at the plate in both games combined, knocking in a run and hitting a pinch hit homer to help break a 3-3 tie in the bottom of the sixth inning in game one.
Senior Anyibell Ramirez (16-3) earned the win in the opener, pitching seven innings with seven strikeouts while allowing five hits and three earned runs. Paschall improved to 11-1 on the season after her complete-game shutout with nine strikeouts.
Campbellsville's (15-20, 7-5 MSC) Martina Riney picked up the loss in game one, while Courtney Turpin took the loss in the nightcap.
Right fielder Jennifer England paced the Tigers, going 2-for-3 in game one with a home run and RBI.
Multiple one-run innings for both teams painted the picture of the opener as the Tigers struck first with a run in the first inning. Lindsey Wilson responded with the tying run in the bottom of the second before losing the lead and tying the game again in both the fifth and sixth innings.
Knotted at 3-3 in the sixth inning, Garrett came in to bat for junior Amy Buwalda and delivered in her lone plate appearance with a towering game-winning home run.
Game two was more of a pitcher's duel as the Blue Raiders outhit Campbellsville 5-3 and scored just two runs to tally the win. Turpin was strong through six innings for the Tigers, allowing just one walk and one earned run with three strikeouts.
The Blue Raiders were able to manufacture runs to support Paschall in the first and sixth innings to give her the shutout.
With two outs in the first inning of game two, sophomore right fielder Lauren Seibert struck out, but advanced to first anyway on a passed ball by the Tiger catcher. From there she advanced to third on a single by junior shortstop Jamie Williams and ultimately came home to score the winning run on a single by junior third baseman Emily Priar.
Lindsey Wilson returns to action on April 2 at Pikeville (Ky.) College.
