No. 14 Softball Splits with Georgetown on Tuesday

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

COLUMBIA, Ky. -- Its 14-game winning streak came to a close as the 14th ranked Lindsey Wilson College softball team split its doubleheader against Georgetown (Ky.) College on Tuesday losing 3-2 in nine innings in game one and winning 4-3 in game two at Lindsey Wilson Park.

Sophomore Alexis Rodgers went 3-for-7 at the plate for Lindsey Wilson with a run and Ally Goniea went 3-for-6 with a home run and three RBIs.

Senior Anyibell Ramirez took the loss in game one, while senior Morgan Paschall earned the win in game two with Ramirez entering in the seventh inning to tally a save.

Georgetown's (23-10, 16-2 MSC) Michelle Dresselhaus picked up the win in the opener, while Miranda Buchanan took the game-two loss.

Paschall pitched 6-1/3 innings in the nightcap, striking out six batters while allowing six hits and three earned runs with a walk. Ramirez entered in the seventh, pitching 2/3 of an inning with two strikeouts while also allowing a hit.

Ramirez went eight innings in the opener, striking out 16 batters while allowing seven hits and three earned runs with a walk. Paschall took over in the ninth inning with Lindsey Wilson (36-5, 17-1 MSC) trailing 3-2 and struck out the side.

Game one was a pitcher's duel all the way into the fifth inning when Lindsey Wilson struck first and again in the sixth to take a 2-0 lead into the top of the seventh inning. Sophomore second baseman Jordan Gilland doubled in the fifth to score junior third baseman Emily Priar who reached on a walk and Goniea homered in the sixth.

The 2-0 lead was short lived as the Tigers caught fire at the plate in the bottom of the seventh, tying the game with three straight doubles.

A leadoff home run by second baseman Mallory Johnson put the Tigers in front 3-2 and Lindsey Wilson's rally fell short in the bottom half of the inning as junior catcher Mikaila Etheredge struck out looking with the tying run on third.

The Blue Raider's didn't waste as much time getting on top in game two, scoring two runs in the first and third innings, but a late rally be Georgetown didn't make earning the doubleheader split easy.

Goniea helped build the early lead with a double that scored Rodgers and junior shortstop Jamie Williams. Priar doubled in the third inning to score junior Amy Buwalda, then sophomore right fielder Lauren Seibert doubled to add Priar to the scoring column.

The Tigers' three-run rally came in the seventh inning as they registered a double, three singles and a walk to climb back within a run at 4-3. With runners on third and second and two outs, Ramirez struck out swinging to give the Blue Raiders the win.

Lindsey Wilson returns to action at 1 p.m. CT on April 19 at Campbellsville (Ky.) University.
