Ramirez Hurls No-Hitter, Offense Explodes in Softball's Sweep of Cumberlands

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. -- It was a dominant performance today by the Lindsey Wilson College softball team in a doubleheader sweep of host University of the Cumberlands (Ky.).

Lindsey Wilson senior Anyibell Ramirez hurled a no-hitter in a 7-0 win in the opener and senior Ally Goniea homered twice in a 15-0 win in the nightcap.

Ramirez struck out 15 Patriots and narrowly missed a perfect game with a second inning hit batsman and a fifth inning walk en route to her 23rd win of the season.

Junior Emily Priar provided the Blue Raiders first run of the game in the second inning with her third home run of the season. The solo shot would be all that Ramirez would need.

One inning later the Blue Raiders (39-6, 20-2 in the MSC) grabbed a 3-0 lead after Goniea doubled home sophomore Alexis Rodgers who lead off the inning with a single. Priar followed with her second RBI of the game with a single that plated Goniea to add to the Lindsey Wilson lead.

The Blue Raiders tacked on four more runs in the fourth to take a 7-0 lead.

Juniors Kaylee Garrett and Jamie Williams provided RBI hits and Goniea added a two-out, two RBI single to finish the game 2-for-4 with a run and three RBIs.

Ramirez took care of the rest, facing the minimum over the final four innings to secure the no-hitter.

In game two, senior pitcher Morgan Paschall and sophomore Lauren Seibert held the Patriots (16-29, 6-18) scoreless while the Blue Raider offense scored a season-high 15 runs to complete the sweep.

Goniea continued swinging a hot bat with a 3-for-3 second game, including two home runs and six RBIs. She is tied for second on the team with Seibert with eight long balls this season.

The Blue Raiders scored in every inning with the exception of the fifth. The decisive inning came in an eight-run sixth inning to secure the win.

Rodgers added three hits and sophomore Jordan Gilland added a 2-for-4 performance with a home run and three RBIs. The homer was Gilland's third of the season.

Paschall continued the LWC dominance in the circle with five scoreless innings and eight strikeouts. She allowed just three hits and a walk en route to her 16th win in 17 decisions. Seibert pitched a scoreless sixth inning allowing a hit and recording one strikeout.

The Blue Raiders return to action at 11 a.m. CT on Saturday, April 23, as Lindsey Wilson travels to St. Catharine (Ky.) College in both teams MSC regular season finale.
