Box Score 2 DANVILLE, Ky. -- After a wild start to the day with West Division fifth-seed University of the Cumberlands (Ky.) beating top-seeded Lindsey Wilson College 1-0, the Blue Raiders stayed alive in the double-elimination Mid-South Conference Tournament with a 7-2 win against East Division No. 2 seed Shawnee State (Ohio) University on Friday at Millennium Park in Danville, Ky.
Cumberlands used a home run off of Lindsey Wilson starter Anyibell Ramirez to score the game's lone run and pull off the upset of the NAIA's 13th ranked team.
Lindsey Wilson had a chance to tie the game in the seventh inning when junior shortstop Jamie Williams advanced to third base with two outs after initially reaching base with a single to lead off the inning.
Williams tagged up to reach home presumably safe on a sacrifice fly by senior first baseman Kelly McCarty, but the tying run was ultimately wiped off the board after the third-base umpire ruled she left base before the catch.
After a quick break, the Blue Raiders took the field again in an elimination game against Shawnee State. This time around Lindsey Wilson scored early in the first inning, helping to take off some of the pressure built from taking the upset loss in the opener.
The runs consistently built the rest of the way until the Blue Raiders reached the seventh inning with a 7-0 lead. The Bears showed their only signs of life in their side of the seventh, belting a pair of home runs before Ramirez exited to allow senior Morgan Paschall to finish out the win.
Lindsey Wilson returns to action in the tournament at 10:30 a.m. CT against West Division No. 2 seed Georgetown (Ky.) College which lost to the University of Rio Grande (Ohio) 2-1 on Friday.
With wins on Saturday, the Blue Raiders could possibly play in games scheduled for 12:30 p.m. and 2 p.m., all games are at Millenium Park in Danville, Ky.
