Softball Sprints Past Bellevue at Nationals, Wins 8-0 in Six Innings

Box Score

GULF SHORES, Ala. -- The Lindsey Wilson College softball team wasn't interested in waiting around a full seven innings to record its second win at the NAIA National Championship as it crushed Bellevue (Neb.) University 8-0 in six innings for a run-rule win on Friday at the Gulf Shores Sportsplex.

Now at 2-0 in Pool F, the Blue Raiders meet another 2-0 team tomorrow in Belhaven (Miss.) University for the right to advance to the double-elimination eight-team bracket that starts play on Monday.

First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m. CT tomorrow as all the action will once again be available free online on RaiderVision through iHigh.com.

Against the Bruins senior catcher Ally Goniea, junior center fielder Amy Harner and junior right fielder Megan Huckaby all recorded two hits, while Goniea did the most damage with five RBIs on two doubles.

Goniea's sacrifice fly with the bases loaded in the bottom of the sixth inning produced the game-winning run as Huckaby tagged up from third to give Lindsey Wilson (47-7) the required eight-run lead after the fifth inning to end the game.

Priar also got into the RBI act, crushing a double in the fourth inning out to deep left field to score a pair of runs.

It was another stellar pitching performance by senior duo Anyibell Ramirez and Morgan Paschall. Ramirez started the game and earned the win, improving to 28-6 overall, with six strikeouts and allowing no hits in four innings. Paschall struck out five batters and allowed the only hit of the game in relief over the last two innings played.

Amanda Neumann was stuck with the loss for the Bruins, falling to 22-10 on the season with three runs allowed on four hits with just one strikeout in 2-2/3 innings. Allie Bartley pitched the final three innings for Bellevue (31-19), allowing five runs on six hits with no strikeouts.

Lindsey Wilson finished the game with 10 hits and no errors in the field, while Bellevue committed a pair of errors and managed just one hit. The Bruins hit was the first against Lindsey Wilson through two games at nationals.
