Box Score 2 DECATUR, Ala. -- An offensive surge in one game and a pitching gem in the other helped the No. 14-ranked Lindsey Wilson College softball team to a pair of wins today at the Alabama Arctic Blast.
The Blue Raiders won today's opener 8-2 over Indiana University Southeast and the nightcap 1-0 over No. 19-ranked Reinhardt (Ga.) University to improve to 7-1 overall this season.
Today's opening win was the 100th in the coaching career for Lindsey Wilson coach Ashley McCool. In her third season at the helm of the Blue Raider program, McCool is 101-23 including two national tournament appearances.
Lindsey Wilson's Mikaila Etheredge provided the biggest bat in today's first game. Etheredge had a pair of hits and four RBIs to lead the Blue Raiders to the 8-2 win.
Lindsey Wilson scored one in the first inning and two in the second to take a 3-0 lead.
After a pair of unearned IUS runs in the fourth, the Blue Raiders put the game away with two runs in the fifth and three more in the sixth for the win. The three-run sixth came courtesy of Etheredge's bases clearing triple.
Lindsey Wilson's Andrea Whelan and Amy Buwalda each contributed two hits in the win.
Lauren Seibert picked up her second win of the season while allowing two runs on six hits over 6-1/3 innings.
IUS's Kayla Duke suffered the loss allowing eight runs on 12 hits.
In today's finale, Lindsey Wilson starting pitcher Cara Law extended her scoreless streak to 22 innings in a 1-0 shutout win over Reinhardt.
Law -- who won her team-best fourth game of the season -- allowed just one hit in a complete game effort. She finished with nine strikeouts while issuing three free passes.
Lindsey Wilson capitalized on a third inning error for the only run of the game.
Josie Cox reached on an error in the inning. Alexis Rodgers -- who pinch ran for Cox -- later scored on Emily Priar's two-out RBI single to give the Blue Raiders the 1-0 lead.
That would be all Law would need en route to improving to 4-0 on the season.
Buwalda finished the game with two of the Blue Raider five hits off Reinhardt starter Maddie Monroe. Monroe allowed the one unearned run while striking out 10 Blue Raider batters in a complete game effort.
Lindsey Wilson returns to action on Saturday as the Blue Raiders conclude play in the Alabama Arctic Blast. Lindsey Wilson faces No. 13-ranked Auburn University Montgomery (Ala.) at Noon CT, Trevecca Nazarene (Tenn.) University at 4 p.m. CT and Martin Methodist (Tenn.) College at 6 p.m. CT in Decatur, Ala.
