Box Score 2 GULF SHORES, Ala. -- Lindsey Wilson College's Cara Law and Jordan Hood were dominant in the circle today and the offense pounded out 20 hits as the Blue Raiders swept a pair of games at the Gulf Coast Tournament hosted by University of Mobile (Ala.).
Lindsey Wilson beat No. 5-ranked Brenau (Ga.) University 5-0 in the Blue Raiders first game today and closed the day with a 9-0 win over Morningside (Iowa) College.
No. 14-ranked Lindsey Wilson (19-2) out-hit the Golden Tigers 9-2 while bookending its five runs en route to the win.
Law (8-0) hurled her sixth complete-game shutout of the season while allowing just two hits with three strikeouts.
The Blue Raider offense gave Law all the runs she would need in the bottom of the first with a three-run inning.
Lindsey Wilson's Josie Cox provided the big hit of the inning with her second homer -- a two-run shot -- of the season. Cox finished the game 3-for-3 at the plate with a pair of RBIs.
Law pitched out of her only jam of the game in the top of the second as Brenau (10-2) loaded the bases. However, Law forced Brooke Bryant to ground out to third to end the threat and the inning.
The Lindsey Wilson bats were quite during the middle part of the game before exploding in the bottom of the sixth. The Blue Raiders scored twice on five hits in the inning.
Cox opened with one of five singles during the inning. Amy Buwalda and Mikaila Etheredge each provided RBI singles to extend the Blue Raider lead to 5-0 in Lindsey Wilson's final at-bat of the game.
Law retired nine of the last 11 Brenau batters to secure her eighth win of the season.
Brenau's Anna Maness suffered the loss while allowing all five runs -- two earned -- on nine hits. She struck out five LWC batters.
In the nightcap, Lindsey Wilson continued to use its formula of stellar pitching and timely hitting to beat Morningside 9-0.
Hood hurled six innings of scoreless ball while allowing just two hits and striking out 10. Freshman teammate Kristina Krupinski closed out the seventh with three straight strikeouts to secure the shutout win.
Etheredge and Jamie Williams provided the big bats in game two.
Etheredge finished 2-for-3 with a run and a RBI while Williams had three hits -- including her team-leading fourth home run of the season -- and three RBIs.
It was a pitcher's duel through four innings as neither team could dent the scoreboard.
Lindsey Wilson changed all that with a four-run fifth inning to take control of the game.
Andrea Whelan drove in the game's first run and Jane Egiazarova plated two more with a double two hitters later. Etheredge chased home Egiazarova to give the Blue Raiders the 4-0 lead.
Williams padded the lead with a two-run home run in the sixth. The homer is her 25th of her career -- the most in the program's history.
Lindsey Wilson added three more runs in the seventh en route to the 9-0 win.
The Blue Raiders return to action at on Saturday, March 10 as Lindsey Wilson faces No. 13-ranked Auburn University Montgomery (Ala.) at 5 p.m. CT and Freed-Hardman (Tenn.) University at 7 p.m. CT.
