Bowden, Seibert Enough for No. 14 Softball to Secure Sweep of Asbury

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

WILMORE, Ky. -- In need of any kind of offense in game one of a doubleheader with Asbury (Ky.) on Wednesday, the 14th ranked Lindsey Wilson College softball team got that and more from Travatia Bowden as she finished with five hits to help the Blue Raiders earn a sweep on the road at Cecil Zweifel Field.

Making just her second and third starts of the season in the outfield, Bowden went 3-for-3 in the opener with a triple, two RBIs, run scored and stolen base, followed by a 2-for-3 showing in the nightcap with a double and run scored.

The Blue Raiders especially needed her help in the opener as she accounted for three of the team's five hits.

Luckily, Lauren Seibert was strong in the circle, giving up just three hits and no runs in a complete seven innings of work against Asbury (3-11).

With the win, Seibert improves to 3-0 on the season.

Neither team scored until the fifth inning in the opener as Lindsey Wilson second baseman Chelsea Collins led off with a single and first baseman Amy Buwalda reached on an error, allowing Bowden's single to score them both and put the Blue Raiders in front 2-0.

Lindsey Wilson (23-4) added another run in the seventh and cruised to the win from there behind Seibert's solid outing.

The Blue Raiders fell behind 1-0 in the third inning of game two before exploding for all three of their winning runs in the top of the fourth.

Catcher Mikaila Etheredge brought home the first two runs on the only home run of the game and first baseman Brittny Novickis (2-for-3, RBI) singled to score Bowden who was at second base after a double.

Blue Raider starter Jordan Hood (9-2) didn't mess around from there, putting in three straight 1-2-3 innings before allowing two hits with no runs in the seventh.

Hood finished with 10 strikeouts and scattered three hits with one run in her complete-game performance.

Lindsey Wilson is back on the field in its own classic, hosted alongside Campbellsville (Ky.), on March 16-18. The Blue Raiders play five games in three days, starting at 5 p.m. CT on Friday against Calumet College of St. Joseph at Blue Raider Stadium inside the Lindsey Wilson Sports Park.
