Bowden Powers No. 14 Softball to Sweep of Georgetown

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

COLUMBIA, Ky. – Travatia Bowden hit a pair of home runs, including one with the bases loaded, as the 14th-ranked Lindsey Wilson softball team completed a doubleheader sweep of Georgetown (Ky.) on Thursday, winning 6-2 and 8-0 in a run-ruled shortened five innings at Lindsey Wilson Park.

Bowden had three hits on the day, finishing with eight RBIs, while Jane Egiazarova added a home run in game one and Madison Scott and Kristina Krupinski made it five home runs total with bombs in game two.

Ali Hart tallied three hits combined for Lindsey Wilson (21-3, 7-1 MSC) with a double, stolen base and two runs scored and Antoinette Jenkins went 4 for 7 at the plate with a run and a double.

Krupinski (3-1) picked up the win in game one, allowing two runs on five hits in five innings of work with six strikeouts, while Jordan Hood improved to 6-0 after winning game two with nine strikeouts and just two hits allowed in five innings.

Georgetown failed to have a batter tally double-digit hits in either game as first baseman Madelyn Brown led the way with two hits combined. Shortstop Taylor Shaw and second baseman Mallory Johnson scored its only two runs in game one after a single and reaching on an error.

The Tigers (14-8, 6-4 MSC) went on the board first in game one, scoring two runs with the help of two Blue Raiders errors. Johnson singled and moved to second on a fielder's choice before second baseman Jordan Gilland bobbled a bunt, allowing Johnson to come home and score. Shaw, who had reached on the fielder's choice, later scored as well on a wild throw from third baseman Lauren Payne trying to complete a groundout to first.

After three scoreless innings, the Blue Raiders finally got things rolling in the fourth with the help of Bowden's grand slam. Scott reached on an error, Hood singled up the middle and Payne walked to set up Bowden's game-winning blast to center field.

The four runs proved the difference as Georgetown failed to score again and Lindsey Wilson put two more runs up in the fifth on Egiazarova's homer.

Winning came easier for the Blue Raiders in game two as Jenkins led off with a single and was brought home on Krupinski's two-run shot to right field in the first inning. With Hood keeping the Tigers' bats quiet on the way to nine strikeouts, Lindsey Wilson added three more runs in both the fourth and fifth frames.

Bowden brought all three runs home in the fourth with her other home run and Scott led off the fifth inning with her home run. The final game-ending runs were driven home on a single by Egiazarova to score Hart and a single from Bowden to score Hood.

Lindsey Wilson is back in action at Noon CT on Saturday, hosting Calumet College of St. Joseph at Lindsey Wilson Park.
