Bowden, Krupinski Wake No. 19 Softball Up at Georgetown for MSC Sweep

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

GEORGETOWN, Ky. – On a day where there wasn't a lot of offense to report on, Travatia Bowden and Kristina Krupinski stepped up for the 19th-ranked Lindsey Wilson softball team and secured a 1-0, 4-3 sweep at Georgetown (Ky.) on Tuesday at the Tiger Softball Complex.

Bowden was the lone player to register multiple hits in game one and she scored the only run of the contest, while Krupinski belted her 16th home run of the season in game two to help Lindsey Wilson (33-5, 17-3 MSC) hold on for a one-run win.

The Blue Raiders outhit the Tigers (23-11, 13-7 MSC) just 5-3 in the opener, with three of the hits coming in a game-winning third inning.

Bowden started the frame with the day's third hit on a single up the middle which was followed by singles from second baseman Jordan Gilland and left fielder Antoinette Jenkins. From there, right fielder Andrea Whelan hit a sacrifice fly deep enough to score Bowden and ultimately win the game.

There could have been more runs in the inning, but both Gilland and Jenkins were called out on base-running errors trying to tag up after a fly ball to the outfield by Ali Hart.

A big reason for cool Georgetown bats was a stellar performance in the circle by starting pitcher Cara Law (7-2).

The senior cruised through all seven innings, giving up just three hits with eight strikeouts. Kayla Williams also threw a complete game in the losing effort, giving up Bowden's run while striking out just one batter.

Georgetown put a player on second base just three times in the game with none advancing any further on Law's watch.

The bats picked up a little in game two, and by a little, it was a 6-5 hit advantage for Lindsey Wilson.

Like the early game, only one Blue Raider had multiple hits as Whelan went 2-for-4 and scored a run.

Speaking of runs, the teams played three more innings of scoreless softball before the Blue Raiders went in front 1-0 in the fourth inning on just one hit.

Whelan led off with a single to left field and Hart moved her to second after reaching base on an error. After two straight pop outs, Krupinski drew a walk to load the bases and catcher Jane Egiazarova was hit by a pitch in the next at-bat to bring Whelan home.

Two more runs scored for Lindsey Wilson in the fifth inning on a pair of hits and an error. Gilland led off with a bunt single and scored from third on an error by Georgetown pitcher Katie Mann trying to throw out Whelan at first.

Jenkins, who had singled after Gilland, also scored in the inning as Hart reached safely on a fielder's choice with Whelan being put out at second.

A 3-0 Blue Raider lead quickly jumped to 4-0 in the sixth inning as Krupinski led off with a blast to center field, but the Tigers had one last trick up their sleeves in the final frame.

After going without a run for 13 innings, Georgetown managed to put three across in the seventh and put a scare into Lindsey Wilson.

Hillary Plain led off reaching on a missed catch and Mann made the error hurt even worse with a two-run homer in the next at-bat. Two singles and a walk later, Blue Raider starter Jordan Hood was replaced by Cheyanne Knepper with one out.

The Tigers scored on a groundout in Knepper's first batter faced, but she struck out second baseman Mallory Johnson with runners of third and second to pick up the save (1) and protect Hood's win.

Hood (11-2) made it through 6-1/3 innings, allowing just two earned runs and three overall on five hits with nine strikeouts and just one walk.

Mann pitched another complete game for Georgetown in a loss, scattering six hits for four runs, three earned, with six strikeouts and a single walk as well.

Up next for Lindsey Wilson is a non-conference home doubleheader against Mid-Continent (Ky.) at 3 p.m. CT on Thursday at Lindsey Wilson Park.
