Krupinski Slugs No. 1 Softball to a 6-5 Win against No. 5 UVa.-Wise

Box Score

KINGSPORT, Tenn. – Top-seeded Lindsey Wilson fell behind 5-0 in the first inning to UVa.-Wise at the Mid-South Conference Softball Tournament, but used three home runs to come back for a 6-5 win on Saturday at Dotmar Park.

The Blue Raiders advance to the semifinals of the winner's bracket at 1 p.m. CT on Sunday against No. 6-seed Cumberland (Tenn.).

Tied 5-5 in the seventh inning, Lindsey Wilson first baseman Kristina Krupinski rocketed a home run (22) to right center field to bring the game to a close.

To get there, the Blue Raiders (45-7) got a grand slam from pitcher Jordan Hood in the second inning and solo shot from outfielder Travatia Bowden in the sixth to tie it up.

Center fielder Ali Hart and catcher Jane Egiazarova paced the Blue Raiders with two hits each, while the three home-run hitters claimed all of the RBIs.

Hood went the distance in the circle, allowing five runs, one earned, with 10 strikeouts to improve to 18-3 overall. Allie Gross took the loss after taking over a tie game in the sixth before giving up two hits, including Krupinski's game-ending blast.

The Cavaliers (31-20) did all of their damage to Hood in the opening inning, scoring on a groundout and single, followed by a three-run homer by designated player Rachel Fischer on her only hit.

Hart singled, Bowden was hit by a pitch and Egiazarova reached on an error to load the bases for Hood in the second. With just one out in the inning, Hood powered the ball over the left-field fence to make it a one-run game.

UVa.-Wise failed to score again in the game, as Bowden tied the score at 5-5 with her solo shot in the sixth and Krupinski didn't allow the Cavs to get an out in the seventh before taking a pitch over the fence.
