Softball Falls to Cumberland 2-1, into Consolation Bracket at MSC Tournament

KINGSPORT, Tenn. -- Cumberland's (Tenn.) Courtney Maynard shutdown the Lindsey Wilson offense today to lift the sixth-seeded Bulldogs to a 2-1 win in the Mid-South Conference Tournament at Domtar Park.

The loss drops the top-seeded Blue Raiders (45-8) into the consolation bracket where they will face the survivor of Campbellsville (Ky.) and Georgetown (Ky.) -- who play next here at Domtar in an elimination game.

First pitch is scheduled for 8:30 p.m. CT.

Lindsey Wilson scattered seven hits during the game but could never manage the big hit. The Blue Raiders stranded eight runners including bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh.

Maynard (19-8) picked up the win allowing an unearned run on six hits. Allison Blackwood earned the save getting the final two outs of the final inning with bases juiced.

Cheyanne Knepper suffered her first loss of the season in 12 decisions allowing both runs in 3-2/3 innings. Jordan Hood pitched the final 3-1/3 scoreless innings.

Megan Lavery helped the Bulldogs (36-18) dent the scoreboard first in the third inning with a RBI single to give Cumberland the 1-0 lead. One inning later, Natalie Garcia drew a bases loaded walk from Knepper to give the Bulldogs the 2-0 lead.

Lindsey Wilson scored its first and only run of the game in the bottom of the fourth.

Kristina Krupinski led off the inning with a single and later scored on a throwing error.

The Blue Raiders left bases loaded in the fourth, two on in the fifth and three more in the seventh in the loss.
