Box Score 3 DECATUR, Ala. -- After winning three of its first four games at the Arctic Blast, the No. 11-ranked Lindsey Wilson softball team closed in style with three more wins today en route to a 6-1 weekend.
The Blue Raiders beat William Woods (Mo.) 7-6 in eight innings, No. 5 Reinhardt (Ga.) 6-3 and No. 14-ranked Freed-Hardeman (Tenn.) 2-1 to improve to 10-1 this season.
Andrea Whelan hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the eighth as the Blue Raiders beat William Woods -- who is receiving votes in the national poll -- 7-6.
The Owls scored in the top of the eighth on a fielder's choice after William Woods opened the inning with a runner on second with the international tiebreaker rule in effect.
Jasmine Matchen pitched around some trouble in the inning as William Woods sent six batters to the plate in the inning with just one run crossing home plate. Matchen earned her first win of the season with three innings of relief.
Kristina Krupinski joined Whelan with a deep ball as she hit a fifth-inning, two-run homer.
Whelan ended the game 2-for-2 with a pair of runs and two RBIs. Krupinski was 1-for-3 with a run and two RBIs. Bailey Mize also produced two hits and a RBI in the win.
Abbi Goedde tallied three hits while Madison Scott and Travatia Bowden each drove in two runs in the Blue Raiders' 6-3 win over Reinhardt.
Scott erased a 1-0 deficit with a two-run double in the second inning. Bowden blasted a two-run home run in the in the third to give the Blue Raiders a 4-1 lead.
The Blue Raiders added a run in the fifth with a Bailey Mize home run and cruised to the 6-3 win.
Casey Bryan (5-0) earned the complete-game win by allowing three runs on seven hits. She struck out five Reinhardt batters.
Amanda Trampe helped the Blue Raiders complete the Saturday sweep with both stellar pitching and timely hitting.
While Trampe did not factor in the decision in the circle, she pitched five strong innings allowing just one run and four hits in the 2-1 win over Freed-Hardeman.
At the plate, Trampe went 2-for-3 with home run and two RBIs. She put the Blue Raiders in front with a RBI single in the first inning and again in the sixth with a leadoff homer -- her team-leading fifth of the season.
Matchen picked up her second win of the day with two scoreless innings of relief. She allowed two hits while striking out one.
Lindsey Wilson returns to action at 2 p.m. CT on Friday, Feb. 28 as the Blue Raiders open up Mid-South Conference play with a doubleheader at Shawnee State (Ohio) in Portsmouth, Ohio.
