Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

LEBANON, Tenn. – The ninth-ranked Lindsey Wilson softball team picked up a pair of wins over conference opponent Cumberland (Tenn.) Tuesday afternoon.

Lindsey Wilson (20-2, 6-0 MSC) picked up a 2-0 victory over the Bulldogs (17-5, 8-4 MSC) in game one, followed by a 5-4 win in game two.

The Blue Raiders got on the scoreboard early in game one with a little help from Cumberland miscues.

Andrea Whelan led off the game with a single and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Madison Scott. A fielding error on a batted ball by Kristina Krupinski allowed Whelan to score and give Lindsey Wilson the 1-0 lead.

Travatia Bowden reached on an infield single in the top of the second and a throwing error allowed Abbi Goedde to advance to third. Savannah Madison reached on a fielder's choice which allowed Goedde to score and take a 2-0 Blue Raider lead.

The Bulldogs threatened in the bottom of the second when they loaded the bases on a pair of singles and a walk, but a pop out in foul territory ended the inning and preserved the 2-0 lead.

Lindsey Wilson struggled at the plate the next few innings, but the pitching by Casey Bryan kept the Bulldog bats quiet. She retired nine-straight batters from the third to the fifth inning before giving up a single in the top of the sixth. After a line out and another single, the Blue Raiders were able to end the inning with the 2-0 lead intact. Lindsey Wilson shut down Cumberland in the bottom of the seventh going 1-2-3 to hold on for the win.

Bryan turned in another stellar pitching performance in game one to improve to 9-0 on the season. The freshman from Sharps Chapel, Tenn., went the distance giving up five hits while striking out four in her second-straight complete game shutout. Bryan also recorded a complete game shutout in the 14-0 victory over Bluefield (Va.) on March 15.

Courtney Maynard (9-2) suffered the loss for the Bulldogs after giving up two unearned runs on seven hits in the complete game effort.

Game two got off to a slow start as both teams were held scoreless for the first three innings. Lindsey Wilson's starting pitcher Jordan Hood and Cumberland starting pitcher Jessica Lozano were both effective in shutting down the opposition.

Hood helped herself in the top of the fourth when she broke the scoreless tie with a two-run home run to give the Blue Raiders a 2-0 lead.

The Bulldogs would respond in the bottom half of the inning after Kaleigh Pearce hit a triple that scored two runs and tied the game 2-2.

Lindsey Wilson would break the tie when Scott hit a solo home run in the top of the fifth. After a pair of singles by Amanda Trampe and Krupinski, Bailey Mize hit a single up the middle that scored a run and gave the Blue Raiders a 4-2 lead.

Lindsey Wilson added another run in the sixth when Scott hit a sacrifice fly that scored Kendra Hyden for the 5-2 lead.

Jasmine Matchen entered to pitch in the bottom of the seventh with two runners on and one out. The Bulldogs scored on a single and on a ground out to cut the lead to 5-4, but Matchen induced a ground out for the final out to preserve the win.

Hood (7-1) picked up the win in game two going 6.1 innings and giving up four runs – two earned – on seven hits with seven strikeouts. Matchen picked up her fourth save of the season in relief.

Lozano (7-2) took the loss in game two after giving up 10 hits and five runs – four earned – in six innings of work.

Scott finished the day going 4-for-5 with two RBIs on the day. Whelan and Mize both added a three-hit day while Hood finished 2-for-3 with two RBIs from the plate in game two.

Cumberland was led by Kaleigh Pearce who went 3-for-6 with two RBIs and Devon Jamerson who went 3-for-7 with an RBI on the day.

The Blue Raiders return to action when they travel to Barbourville, Ky., to take on Union College in a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. CT.
