Box Score 2 COLUMBIA, Ky. – Kristina Krupinski went 3-for-3 with three home runs in game one and Jordan Hood threw a complete game one-hitter in game two as the ninth-ranked Lindsey Wilson softball team picked up a pair of wins over Georgetown (Ky.) Saturday at Lindsey Wilson Park.
The Blue Raiders improve to 22-2 on the season and a perfect 8-0 in Mid-South Conference play with the wins.
Georgetown falls to 14-8 on the year and 9-5 in the Mid-South.
Lindsey Wilson, playing in their first home games of the season, wasted little time to get on the scoreboard in game one.
Andrea Whelan hit a leadoff single and two batters later Krupinski hit her first home run of the day over the left field fence to give Lindsey Wilson an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first.
Whelan led off again in the bottom of the third with a single and Madison Scott reached on a walk. Krupinski stepped to the plate and crushed the ball over the right field fence for her fifth home run of the season to increase the Blue Raider lead to 5-0.
Lindsey Wilson added four more runs in the inning after Savannah Madison hit a two-RBI single, Whelan singled to the infield to score Travatia Bowden and Madison later scored to push the lead to 9-0.
The Tigers got on the scoreboard with a solo home run in the top of the fourth, but the Blue Raiders answered with a pair of runs on Krupinski's third home run of the game and an RBI single by Madison to make it 11-1.
Georgetown added another run in the fifth on another solo home run, but was unable to plate any more runs, ending the game 11-2 after five innings.
Casey Bryan (10-0) pitched her eighth complete game of the season while giving up two runs on three hits with four strikeouts in the win.
Sydney Goyette (2-1) took the loss for Georgetown giving up five runs on six hits in two innings of work.
Game two began with a scoreless first inning for both teams. Mize led off the bottom of the second with a solo home run to give Lindsey Wilson the 1-0 lead. The Blue Raiders threatened later in the inning with bases loaded but were unable to plate any more runs after back-to-back strikeouts.
Lindsey Wilson had a chance to add a run in the third, but Krupinski was thrown out at home attempting to score all the way from first on a double by Amanda Trampe.
Whelan led off the fifth with a double and was able to score on another double by Trampe to put the Blue Raiders up 2-0.
Hood (8-1) shut down the Tigers in the final two innings to seal the 2-0 win and record a complete game shutout one-hitter. She was in complete control in the circle from start to finish. After giving up a leadoff single to begin the game, she retired 14 straight batters before giving up a walk in the fifth inning. Following that walk she retired the next seven batters to end the game 2-0 to complete the two-game sweep.
Jessica Claxton (6-3) took the loss going the full six innings and giving up two runs on eight hits while recording 11 strikeouts.
Krupinski finished the day 4-for-4 with six RBIs and her three home runs in game one. Madison went 2-for-3 in game one with three RBIs. Trampe recorded a four-hit day with an RBI. Whelan had four hits with one RBI and three runs scored.
Ashley Coppage and Marissa Massie scored the lone two runs of the day for Georgetown on their two solo shots in game one. Chelsea Riney recorded the lone hit for the Tigers in game two.
The Blue Raiders return to action on Monday, March 24 when they host St. Catharine College in a doubleheader beginning at 3 p.m. CT at Lindsey Wilson Park.
