Box Score 2 COLUMBIA, Ky. – Bailey Mize and Abbi Goedde combined for 11 RBIs as the No. 9-ranked Lindsey Wilson softball team cruised to a pair of Mid-South Conference wins over St. Catharine (Ky.) on Monday night.
The Blue Raiders (24-2, 10-0 MSC) won 12-2 in game one followed by a 10-2 victory in game two, both games ending after five innings.
Lindsey Wilson wasted little time to get on the scoreboard in game one as Andrea Whelan led off with a solo home run. Amanda Trampe later hit a ground ball that rolled all the way to the fence that allowed Kristina Krupinski to score from first base for the 2-0 lead.
The Patriots responded with a solo home run of their own in the top of the second to cut the lead to 2-1.
In the bottom of the third, Mize hit a two-RBI double followed by a two-run home run by Goedde to push the Blue Raider lead to 6-1.
St. Catharine threatened in the fourth after three-straight singles scored a run and loaded the bases with just one out. The Blue Raiders were able to get a pair of pop outs to end the threat and hold the 6-2 lead.
Lindsey Wilson put together a big bottom half of the fourth to put the game out of reach. Savannah Madison hit a leadoff home run to push the lead to 7-2. Three-straight singles by Madison Scott, Krupinski and Trampe followed by another double by Mize put the Blue Raiders up 10-2. Goedde stepped to the plate and hit her second two-run home run of the game to push the lead to 12-2.
Jasmine Matchen entered in the top of the fifth to pitch and went 1-2-3 to end the game 12-2 in favor of Lindsey Wilson.
Starting pitcher Casey Bryan improved to 11-0 with the win. Bryan allowed two runs on five hits with five strikeouts.
St. Catharine's Tiffany Wickline (1-7) took the loss after giving up 11 runs on nine hits in three and two thirds innings.
Game two saw the Patriots take their first lead of the day after going up 1-0 on a groundout. St. Catharine had the bases loaded, but was only able to push the one run across.
The lead did not last long as the first three Blue Raiders at the plate all reached to load the bases in the bottom of the first.
Mize hit a two-RBI single and Krupinski scored on a fielder's choice to give Lindsey Wilson a 3-1 lead.
The Blue Raiders added a run in the second as Whelan scored on a sacrifice fly by Krupinski.
St. Catharine added a run in the third on a solo home run, but Lindsey Wilson answered with a pair of runs in the bottom of the inning after a fielding error by the Patriots.
Lindsey Wilson added their final four runs in the bottom of the fourth on a single by Goedde, sacrifice fly by Travatia Bowden and two-run home run by Jordan Hood to make it 10-2.
Matchen again entered in the fifth and shut down the Patriots to end the game.
Hood (9-1) picked up the win in the circle after going four innings with two earned runs on three hits with five strikeouts.
Brittany McKee (2-1) took the loss for St. Catharine giving up 10 runs – eight earned – on 11 hits.
Mize finished the day 4-for-5 with six RBIs and scored three times. Goedde recorded five RBIs on her three hits including two home runs. Whelan scored four times while recording three hits and an RBI. Trampe added a four-hit day with three runs scored and two RBIs.
The Blue Raiders return to action when they travel to Campbellsville (Ky.) for a two-game series with the Tigers on Thursday beginning at 1 p.m. CT.
