Softball opens Gulf Coast Invitational with wins over Bethel and Martin Methodist

MOBILE, Ala. -- The Lindsey Wilson College softball team ran its winning streak to seven straight on Friday with wins over Bethel (Tenn.) and Martin Methodist (Tenn.) during the first day of the Gulf Coast Invitational.

The Blue Raiders (12-1) recorded its first shutout of the season in a 2-0 over Bethel to open the three-day event.

Jordan Hood (3-1) was spectacular in the circle with a four-hit, complete-game shutout. Hood struck out three Bethel batters en route to the win.

Offensively, Travatia Bowden provided a pair of hits, including a RBI double in the fourth inning to lead the Blue Raiders. Amanda Trampe added a RBI in the win.

In Friday's second game, four Blue Raiders had multiple-hit games to lead Lindsey Wilson to the 4-3 win over Martin Methodist.

Bailey Mize was perfect at the plate going 3-for-3 with a RBI while Bowden, Trampe and Madison Scott all added two hits each.

Jasmine Matchen (3-0) picked up the win in relief. Matchen pitched 2-1/3 innings scoreless innings while allowing just one hit. Casey Bryan got the no decision after allowing three runs on seven hits in 4-2/3 innings.

Lindsey Wilson back in action on Saturday with a pair of games. The Blue Raiders face No. 14 Freed-Hardeman (Tenn.) at 3 p.m. CT and No. 5-ranked Reinhardt (Ga.) at 7 p.m. CT.
