Box Score 2 COLUMBIA, Ky. -- With two outs in the bottom of the seventh, Madison Scott hit a two-run home run to lift No. 8 Lindsey Wilson softball past Cumberland (Tenn.) 11-10 in game two of a doubleheader. The win secured the season sweep of the Bulldogs after the Blue Raiders won game one 7-3.
Lindsey Wilson (32-5, 18-3 MSC) had to come from behind after a pair of errors and a wild pitch allowed Cumberland to take a 10-9 lead in the top of the seventh inning in game two.
The Blue Raiders took an early three-run lead in game two on an Amanda Trampe three-run home run, her 11th of the season to make it 3-0 after the first inning.
Starting pitcher Jordan Hood stranded runners in the second and third innings before retiring the side in order in the fourth.
Hood allowed two earned runs in the fifth after giving up a two-RBI double to Shawnee Kirk to cut the Blue Raider lead to 3-2.
Lindsey Wilson responded in the bottom of the fifth with three runs. Bailey Mize made it 4-2 with an RBI single to score Scott, who reached on an earlier walk. With the bases loaded, and two outs, Hood drew a walk to score Kristina Krupinski and Ashley Evans hit an RBI single to plate Mize and make it 6-2.
Cumberland (28-12-1, 14-10 MSC) scored five unearned runs in the sixth inning after a pair of Blue Raider fielding errors to give the Bulldogs a 7-6 lead.
With one out in the inning, Tessa Tomaselli reached on an error by Evans and advanced to third on a Sarah Murray single. Tomaselli scored on an RBI single by Devon Jamerson and the bases remained loaded for Kirk. Kirk followed up with a double to deep center to score Murray and Katelyn Nowakowski to cut the lead to 6-5.
Jasmine Matchen came in to relieve Hood after the Kirk two-RBI double. Matchen got Jessica Roper to fly out, but a misplayed catch in left allowed Jamerson and Kirk to score to take a 7-6 lead heading into the bottom of the sixth.
The Blue Raiders once again responded in the bottom half of the inning when Trampe doubled up the middle and scored on a Mize RBI single to right to tie it at 7-7. Lindsey Wilson took the lead on a two-run home run by Abbi Goedde to give the Blue Raiders a 9-7 lead heading into the final inning.
The seventh opened with the fourth Lindsey Wilson error of the game on a grounder to third base. A second-straight error by the Blue Raiders gave the Bulldogs a runner in scoring position with no outs. Nowakowski moved the runners to second and third and a Casey Bryan wild pitch on the next batter allowed Tomaselli to score and cut the lead to 9-8. The Bulldogs scored the tying run on a Kirk RBI single. Hood came back to the circle to replace Bryan after the run. The sixth error of the game by Lindsey Wilson came after a missed catch on a ground out that gave the Bulldogs a 10-9 lead heading into the bottom of the seventh.
Courtney Maynard replaced Jessica Lozano in the circle to start the bottom of the seventh and she gave up a leadoff single to Hood who later advanced to second on a wild pitch. After a strikeout and ground out, the Blue Raiders were down to their final out as Scott stepped to the plate. She delivered a walk-off two-run home run over the left field fence to give the Blue Raiders an 11-10 win over Cumberland.
Hood (13-2) started the game and went five and one-third innings before being replaced by Matchen. She later re-entered in the top of the seventh to get the final out of the inning, picking up the win in the process. She went six total innings allowing two earned runs on seven hits with four strikeouts. Scott finished the game 2-for-4 including the walk-off home run with two RBIs. Trampe went 3-for-4 with a home run, three RBIs and two runs scored. Mize finished the game 3-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored.
Maynard (15-7) was hit with the loss after entering in the seventh and giving up the two runs.
In game one, Cumberland took an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first after a pair of singles and a wild throw.
Lindsey Wilson got a run back in the second inning as Travatia Bowden hit an RBI double that scored Goedde to cut the lead to 2-1.
The Blue Raiders added three runs in the bottom of the third after loading the bases with two outs. Goedde was hit by the pitch to score Andrea Whelan and tie the game at 2-2. Bowden gave Lindsey Wilson the lead 4-2 on a two-RBI single.
In the sixth inning, the Bulldogs made it 4-3 on an Emily Nicholson solo home run to left field. Bryan allowed a single to the next batter but was able to get out of the inning with a pop out and two strikeouts to preserve the 4-3 lead.
Lindsey Wilson added three more runs in the bottom of the sixth after a two-RBI single by Mize and an RBI single by Goedde to make it 7-3.
Bryan (15-2) gave up to hits in the top of the seventh but kept the Bulldogs from scoring, ending the game 7-3. She finished the game with three earned runs on seven hits with three strikeouts and three walks. Mize went 1-for-3 with two RBIs and a run scored. Bowden finished the game 2-for-4 with three RBIs.
Maynard took the loss giving up seven earned runs on ten hits while striking out just two.
Lindsey Wilson is back in the circle on Tuesday, April 14 as they travel to University of Rio Grande (Ohio) for a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m. CT.
