COLUMBIA, Ky. – The eighth-ranked Lindsey Wilson softball team clinched the Mid-South Conference regular-season title with a pair of shutout victories over Cumberlands (Ky.) Tuesday evening at Lindsey Wilson Park.

The Blue Raiders won game one 12-0 and completed the sweep with an 8-0 victory in the nightcap to secure their first outright MSC title since 2012. Lindsey Wilson and Campbellsville (Ky.) were co-regular season champions in 2013.

Lindsey Wilson (40-6, 26-4 MSC) jumped out to a big lead in game one after scoring five runs in the bottom of the first.

Andrea Whelan singled to start the inning and Scott was safe on a sacrifice bunt due to an error. Kristina Krupinski walked to load the bases and after a fly out, Bailey Mize hit a double to left field to score Whelan and Scott. Krupinski later scored from third on a wild pitch and Abbi Goedde hit a two-run home run to push the lead to 5-0.

In the bottom of the third, Goedde was at it again as she belted a solo shot over the right field fence for her 13th home run of the year. Travatia Bowden followed with a single and later scored on a double by Savannah Madison to push the lead to 7-0.

The big inning continued as Ashley Evans singled, followed by a Whelan single to left field to score Madison and Evans. Whelan was able to score on a fielder's choice by Krupinski and Amanda Trampe followed with a two-run home run to push the lead to 12-0. Trampe's home run was her 14th of the season which is tied for the most in the Mid-South Conference.

In the circle, starting pitcher Casey Bryan (19-3) picked up the win allowing just two hits on the day while striking out one without issuing a walk. Jasmine Matchen pitched one scoreless inning of relief to preserve the shutout.

Cumberlands' (14-29, 11-19 MSC) Nichol Chesley (10-14) took the loss after giving up 10 runs – eight earned – on 10 hits in two and one third innings.

Game two saw the Blue Raiders take another quick lead in the bottom of the first inning. Whelan singled to start the frame, Scott walked and Trampe singled to load the bases. Mize hit a sacrifice fly to center to score Whelan, but a fielder's choice limited Lindsey Wilson to just one run.

Bowden led off the bottom of the second with a double and advanced to third on a single by Evans. Whelan stepped to the plate and delivered a double to deep left-center to score both runners. Whelan advanced to third on the throw which went into the Patriots dugout for an error that allowed her to score for the 4-0 lead.

The Blue Raiders tacked on another run in the fourth after a single by Evans and double by Krupinski to extend the lead to 5-0.

In the bottom of the fifth, Goedde and Bowden hit back-to-back singles to start the inning. Jordan Hood singled to score pinch runner Ashley Hughes and Hailey Vernon walked to load the bases. Scott stepped up and delivered a double off the wall to score Bowden and pinch runner Kendra Hyden for the 8-0 lead, ending the game due to mercy rule in the fifth inning.

Hood (17-2) picked up the win in the circle pitching her 12th complete game of the season and seventh shutout. Hood scattered four hits while striking out five without issuing a walk.

Ashleigh Hopf (4-8) took the loss allowing eight earned runs on 13 hits in four and one third innings.

Whelan led the way at the plate going 4-for-6 with four RBIs and scored four times. Scott added three hits with a pair of RBIs while Bowden scored three times. Goedde and Mize both recorded three RBIs while Krupinski and Trampe added two apiece.

Lindsey Wilson finished with 25 hits on the day.

Lindsey Wilson returns to action on Friday when they host Rio Grande (Ohio) for a doubleheader set to begin at 3 p.m. CT.
