Box Score 2 COLUMBIA, Ky. -- No. 8 Lindsey Wilson softball used four home runs and 20 total runs to sweep Shawnee State in the final Mid-South Conference regular season doubleheader at Lindsey Wilson Park, 12-9 and 8-0 on Saturday.
Lindsey Wilson (43-7, 29-5 MSC) fell behind 1-0 on a leadoff home run by Tara Duncan over the left field fence in the first inning, but the Blue Raiders responded with three runs of its own in the bottom of the first. With the bases loaded, Bailey Mize hit a deep fly ball to left center field that was dropped by Heidi Hall to take a 2-1 lead. Travatia Bowden drove in the third run of the inning on an RBI single to center field to give the Blue Raiders a 3-1 lead.
Lindsey Wilson added seven runs in the bottom of the third. Amanda Trampe scored the first of her two runs after an RBI double by Mize made it 4-1. Bowden hit her 10th home run of the season to make it 6-1. Madison Scott made it 7-1 with an RBI single and Kristina Krupinski gave the Blue Raiders a 8-1 with an RBI single. Trampe drove in two runs with an RBI single to give Lindsey Wilson a 10-1 lead.
Casey Bryan (20-4) allowed a first inning home run, but settled down to get two strikeouts and a ground out to get out of the first inning. In the second inning, Bryan got a pop out to end the inning with a runner on third.
In the fourth, Bryan got two quick outs, but a triple down the right-field line scored three to cut the Blue Raider lead to 10-4. The Bears added a run on a wild throw by Scott to make it 10-5 and Abbey Barrett made it 10-6 with an RBI double to deep right-center field.
Lindsey Wilson took an 11-6 lead in the bottom of the fourth on an Abbi Goedde home run over the left-field fence and made it 12-6 after Krupinski doubled and scored on a Trampe RBI double in the fifth.
Shawnee State (25-22, 17-19 MSC) would once again cut into the Blue Raiders lead with three runs in the top of the sixth. With two outs and runners on first and second, Barrett hit a three-run home run to make it 12-9.
Matchen came in to relieve Bryan with two outs in the sixth to record her fifth save on the seaon and secure the 12-9 Lindsey Wilson win.
Bryan finished the game with three strike outs and one walk while allowing nine runs - seven earned - on 10 hits. A trio of Lindsey Wilson batters finished the game with three hits including Trampe who went 3-for-3 with three RBIs and two runs scored. Scott went 3-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored while Krupinski went 3-for-4 with three runs scored and one RBI. Bowden hit a home run and recorded three RBIs as she finished 2-for-4.
Allie Chapman (14-10) pitched a complete game, giving up 12 runs - six earned - on 13 hits. Duncan and Barrett both finished the game with two hits and a home run.
In game two, the Blue Raiders stayed hot at the plate as they put five runs on the board in the bottom of the first off Shawnee State's pitcher Tara Prater.
Lindsey Wilson scored two quick runs with one out after Trampe hit an RBI double to score Andrea Whelan who reached on a single and give the Blue Raiders a 1-0 lead. With Trampe on second and Scott on third, Bailey Mize crushed a 1-1 pitch over the right-field fence to make it 4-0. Mize's home run broke the Lindsey Wilson single season team home run record set in 2013 with the team's 75th home run of the season. Whelan recorded her second hit of the inning with an RBI single to give the Blue Raiders a 5-0 lead.
Hood made it 6-0 on a solo home run in the bottom of the third and a wild throw in the fourth inning by Shawnee State gave Lindsey Wilson a 7-0 lead. Bowden made it 8-0 on an RBI single, her fourth RBI of the day.
Hood was stellar after giving up two first inning hits as she retired 12 of the final 13 Shawnee State batters to help the Blue Raiders to an 8-0 win. Hood went five innings to record her 14th complete game of the season. Hood struck out six while allowing only three hits in her 22nd start of the season. Hood went 2-for-3 from the plate with a home run.
Whelan finished the game 3-for-3 with a run and an RBI while Trampe went 3-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI. Mize finished the game with a home run and three RBIs.
Prater (3-5) went four innings in the loss, surrendering eight runs - five earned - on 11 hits.
Lindsey Wilson will begin play in the Mid-South Conference Tournament on April 30 in Danville, Ky.
