No. 9 Softball Sweeps Pikeville 3-1 and 12-0 on Saturday at Lindsey Wilson Park

COLUMBIA, Ky. -- No. 9 Lindsey Wilson softball swept University of Pikeville (Ky.) 3-1 and 12-0 behind two strong pitching performances at Lindsey Wilson Park on Saturday afternoon.

Lindsey Wilson (29-3, 15-1 MSC) combined for 15 runs on 25 hits as the Blue Raiders were dominant in the circle and at the plate for the second day in a row.

The Blue Raiders got the scoring started in game one as they plated two runs in the bottom of the third to take a 2-0 lead. Madison Scott led the third with a single and Kristina Krupinski hit a two-run home run to center field to make 2-0.

Casey Bryan started the game and struck out 10 batters while giving up one run on four hits in seven innings pitched. She set six straight Bears down in the third in fourth inning before Pikeville was able to get its second runner in scoring position in the fifth inning. Bryan was able to get a fly out in foul territory to get out of the inning.

Pikeville scored its lone run of the game in the six inning as Brandi Jo Howard tripled down the right field line and scored on Eady Beth Connally's sacrifice fly to cut the lead to 2-1.

Lindsey Wilson answered in the bottom of the sixth as Travatia Bowden took a Sydney Morris 3-2 pitch over the left field fence to give the Blue Raiders a 3-1 lead.

Bryan struck out the side in the top of the seventh to record her 14th win of the season. Krupinski finished the game 2-for-3 with a home run, two RBIs and a run scored. Bowden went 2-for-3 with a home run, an RBI and a run scored.

In game two, Jordan Hood was dominant in the circle as she gave up no hits, striking out nine while giving up two walks in five innings of work to record her 11th win of the season.

Lindsey Wilson's bats got hot in game two as they came out in the first inning and scored six runs to take an early 6-0 lead. With the bases loaded, Amanda Trampe crushed a bases clearing double down the left field line to give the Blue Raiders a 3-0 lead with no outs. Hood helped herself as she hit an RBI double to left center to score Trampe and extend the lead to 4-0. Andrea Whelan saw her second at bat of the inning and hit an two-RBI single up the middle to give Lindsey Wilson a 6-0 lead.

A six run lead was all Hood needed as she retired the final 13 Pikeville batters after giving up two first inning walks.

The Blue Raiders added two runs in the second inning when Trampe singled in Krupinski who reached on a hard hit double to give Lindsey Wilson a 7-0 lead. The next batter, Bailey Mize knocked Trampe in with a line drive down the left field line to extend the lead to 8-0.

Lindsey Wilson scored four more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning as Abbi Goedde and Bowden hit back-to-back home runs to make it 10-0. Kendra Hyden, pinch hitting for Trampe doubled down the right field line to score two more runs and increase the lead to 12-0.

Pikeville was unable to get anything going off Hood as she struck out the side in the fifth as Lindsey Wilson secured its 15th Mid-South Conference win of the season.

Trampe finished game two 3-for-3 with a double, four RBIs and two runs scored. Goedde went 2-for-3 with a home run and an RBI. Bowden went 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBIs.

The Blue Raiders are back in the circle Sunday, April 6 as they travel to Portsmouth, Ohio to face Shawnee State (Ohio) University at 12 p.m. CT.
