Box Score 2 CALEDONIA, Mich. -- No. 4-ranked Lindsey Wilson softball put on another offensive show in a doubleheader sweep of Madonna (Mich.) today at Farmers Insurance Complex on Davenport's (Mich.) campus.
One day after scoring 22 runs -- 11 in each game -- in a doubleheader sweep of No. 23 Davenport, the Blue Raiders (16-3) were at it again, winning 8-1 and 14-5 over Madonna to complete their Michigan swing with a 4-0 record.
Andrea Whelan hit a two-run home run in the first inning of game one to ignite the Blue Raider bats in an 8-1 win. Lindsey Wilson scored four times in the second inning and one more in the third to lead 7-0 after the first three innings.
Whelan ended the game 2-for-4 at the plate with three runs batted in. Jenna Firestein continued swinging a hot bat, collecting three hits while scoring twice. Amanda Trampe added two RBIs in the game-one win.
Casey Bryan went the distance in the circle for the Blue Raiders. She allowed one run on five hits with eight strikeouts and no free passes.
Madonna put a scare in the Blue Raiders in the second game, leading 5-4 through five innings. Lindsey Wilson responded with eight runs in the sixth and two more in the seventh to set a season high with 14 runs in the 14-5 win.
Trampe had a bases-loaded triple and Sydney Fourman blasted a three-run home run in the sixth inning while Chelsea Showers added a two-run shot in the seventh to fuel the come-from-behind win.
Six different Blue Raiders recorded multiple hits in the game. Fourman ended the game with four RBIs while Trampe and Showers each drove in three runs.
Bryan -- after collecting two saves in yesterday's sweep -- picked up her second win of the day in relief. She threw three scoreless innings to close out the game while scattering three hits to improve to 6-1 on the season.
Lindsey Wilson returns to action at 3 p.m. CT on Monday, March 16, as the Blue Raiders host Brescia (Ky.) in their home opener at the Lindsey Wilson Sports Park.
