COLUMBIA, Ky. – The second-ranked Lindsey Wilson softball team begins conference play with four games against host No. 24-ranked Campbellsville (Ky.) this weekend at Veterans Memorial Park.
To start the series, Saturday's doubleheader is slated for a noon CT first pitch, and the doubleheader on Sunday will open at noon CT.
Having recently received their highest rank in program history, the Blue Raiders (16-3) enter this series having won four-straight games and seven-of-eight.
Last weekend, Lindsey Wilson traveled to Caledonia, Michigan, and swept doubleheaders against then-No. 23 Davenport (Mich.) and Madonna (Mich.).
Three-time Mid-South Conference Player of the Week Chelsea Showers paces the Blue Raiders in numerous offensive categories, including batting average (.524), runs scored (28), base hits (33) and home runs (eight). She also is five-of-six on stolen-base attempts.
Amanda Trampe leads Lindsey Wilson with 27 RBI, while Jenna Firestein has a team-best seven steals.
As a group, the Blue Raider pitching staff has a 2.10 earned run average and 133 strikeouts in 130 innings.
Reigning MSC Pitcher of the Week Casey Bryan is 6-1 with a 1.35 ERA as well as a pair of saves. Jordan Hood is 5-1 with a 2.29 ERA and 63 strikeouts in 49 innings, and Lyndsey Parden holds a 5-1 record with a 2.85 ERA.
The host Tigers (9-4) recently achieved a top-25 ranking for the first time since the April 1, 2014 release, a stretch that spanned seven editions of the NAIA Softball Coaches' Top 25 Poll.
In its previous game, Campbellsville lost to Columbia (Mo.), 3-0, on March 8 during the Gulf Coast Invitational in Gulf Shores, Alabama.
The Tigers are batting just .227 this spring, but have a 1.36 ERA.
Seven different Campbellsville players have homered, including two apiece by Brianna Scott, Markie Smith and Haley Szpila.
In the pitching circle for the Tigers, Victoria Decker has a 0.94 ERA and a 5-2 record in eight appearances, while Neely Quint is 4-2 with a 1.79 ERA.
Last season, Campbellsville won three-of-five meetings against Lindsey Wilson.
