Box Score 2 COLUMBIA, Ky. – The No. 9-ranked Lindsey Wilson softball team used its high-powered offense to sweep visiting St. Catharine (Ky.) on Tuesday at Lindsey Wilson Park.
Amanda Trampe hit two home runs, including a grand slam, and accumulated nine RBIs as Andrea Whelan had five RBIs and Jenna Firestein added four during the 9-6 and 18-4 victories. Travatia Bowden added a perfect 5-for-5 day at the plate, scoring on five occasions.
The Blue Raiders held an early 5-0 lead in the opening game before the Patriots climbed back and tied it at 6-6 in the top of the sixth.
But Lindsey Wilson (25-6, 9-3 MSC) scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning led by Abbi Goedde's solo home run to break the 6-6 tie. Casey Bryan later singled scoring Bowden, while Whelan added an RBI single scoring Ashley Evans who pinch ran for Sydney Fourman.
Bryan then retired three of the four St. Catharine (9-19, 3-9) batters in the seventh to seal the 9-6 win for the Blue Raiders.
Lindsey Wilson's offense continued its hot streak in the second game scoring 18 runs on 14 hits. The Blue Raiders' six-run fourth ended the game early due to run rule. Trampe totaled five of her nine RBIs, while Whelan and Firestein each had four RBIs.
In the first game, the team scored the first five runs of the game in the third inning. Jordan Hood started the scoring barrage by hitting a sacrifice fly to center field to score Bowden. Lindsey Wilson later loaded the bases after Whelan hit an infield single. Trampe then stepped up to the plate and hit a grand slam on a 1-0 count.
The Patriots came back in the fifth scoring three runs on three hits. Shelbi Thornhill scored on a Blue Raider error for their first run of the game. After a Patriots pop out, Kolbi Mitchell cleared the bases on a two-RBI single as Lindsey Wilson led 5-3 heading to the bottom half of the fifth.
Although St. Catharine was trailing 6-3 in the sixth inning, the Patriots did not back down from the heavy-powered Blue Raider offense.
St. Catharine added three runs to tie the game ignited by a double from Carly Benz, which scored Brandi Hood. Kelsey Gravens then hit one of her two home runs on the day to center field on a 0-1 count tying the game at six.
Lindsey Wilson struck back however, in the sixth as Goedde hit a solo home run to break the tie. Bryan and Whelan then each added RBI singles to complete the three-run frame.
Bryan (10-2) picked up the win pitching 1-1/3 innings and striking out two batters, entering after starting pitcher Hood exited in the sixth inning.
Krystal Cammuse (4-8) received the loss surrendering nine earned runs on 11 hits in six innings.
In the second game, the Blue Raider offense continued to dominate. The team's six-run fourth blew the game wide open as Trampe hit her second home run of the day and Whelan hit a RBI triple.
Lyndsey Parden shut the Patriots offense down in order in the fifth to end the game due to run rule.
Parden (8-2) earned the victory giving up four earned runs on four hits in five innings of work, while striking out seven.
Tiffany Wickline (3-10) received the loss giving up seven earned runs on seven hits in just two innings.
Whelan finished 4-for-8 with five RBIs on the day, while Firestein went 4-for-7 with four RBIs.
Lindsey Wilson returns to action Friday for the first game of a four-game series at Georgetown (Ky.). First pitch is set for 1 p.m. CT.
