Box Score 2 COLUMBIA, Ky. – Lyndsey Parden pitched a perfect game and tallied 15 strikeouts against Shawnee State (Ohio) in the first game of a doubleheader Sunday afternoon at Lindsey Wilson Park.
The Blue Raiders (33-6, 17-3 MSC) won both games 8-0 in six innings due to run rule.
With the victories, Lindsey Wilson runs its winning streak to a program record 17 straight.
Parden struck out 13-straight batters in game one before the Bears' (5-21, 1-15 MSC) Heidi Hall put the ball in play to ground out in the fifth inning.
Lindsey Wilson's offense began to score in the second inning putting up five runs ignited by a Travatia Bowden solo home run. Jenna Firestein then singled and stole second base before scoring on a Bears' error. Three batters later, Amanda Trampe cleared the bases hitting a three-run home run on the first pitch of the at bat.
Parden's dominant pitching picked up where it left off as she retired the next seven batters before Hall grounded out in the fifth inning.
Parden struck out Abbi Sparks to end the inning and added two more strikeouts in the sixth.
The Blue Raider offense added some insurance runs in the sixth as Chelsea Showers doubled home Firestein. Trampe then scored Showers on an RBI single to right field giving Lindsey Wilson a 7-0 lead. The Blue Raiders tacked on the final run of the game as Andrea Whelan slid into home safely on a Shawnee State passed ball, ending the game in six innings.
Parden picked up her 11th win of the season in 13 decisions with the perfect game.
The perfect game is the first for the Blue Raiders since March 1, 2012, when Jordan Hood and Cara Law combined for the one in an 8-0 win over Midway (Ky.).
Hannah Thacker (2-2) was hit with the loss surrendering eight runs, but just three earned on nine hits in five innings.
Hood earned the start in the second game and turned in another solid pitching performance for Lindsey Wilson.
Hood retired the first 10 batters of the game before giving up a walk and a Shawnee State single in the fourth inning. Hood then settled down striking out Morgan McReynolds and getting Hall to ground out into a fielders' choice to end the inning.
The Blue Raiders offense started slow in game two, but Bailey Mize gave the team some momentum after hitting a solo home run on a full count in the fourth.
Lindsey Wilson added its second run of the game in the fifth when Hood hit a home run of her own on a 2-0 count.
Back in the circle, Hood retired the side in the sixth before the Blue Raiders tacked on six runs in the sixth to clinch the win.
Whelan led off the inning hitting a solo home run. Lindsey Wilson's offense continued to dominate as Trampe and Mize connected on a single and double, respectively. Bowden filled the bases after being hit by a pitch.
Shawnee State's Allie Chapman plunked Sydney Fourman, giving her a RBI and pushing the lead to 4-0. Hood then hit into a fielders' choice, which scored Evans -- who pinch ran for Mize -- followed by an RBI groundout by Firestein scoring Bowden for the 6-0 lead.
Chelsea Showers then stepped up to the plate and hit a two-run single scoring Brittney Graves, who pinch ran for Fourman and Cassie Kooker, who pinch ran for Hood. The two runs ended the game as Lindsey Wilson won its second-straight 8-0 game.
Hood (9-2) earned the win giving up just two hits and a walk in six innings, while striking out six.
Chapman (2-10) suffered the loss giving up eight earned runs on eight hits in 5-2/3 innings, while striking out four.
Trampe and Showers led the Blue Raider offense each finishing with four RBIs.
Lindsey Wilson returns to action Tuesday, April 14 when they travel to St. Catharine (Ky.) for a doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m. CT.
