Box Score 2 WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. – The seventh-ranked Lindsey Wilson softball team extended its winning streak to 21 games with a pair of victories at Cumberlands (Ky.) on Friday afternoon.
The Blue Raiders (37-6, 21-3 Mid-South Conference) defeated the host Patriots (16-16, 5-13 MSC) by scores of 6-0 and 11-4 at the Briar Creek Softball Field.
In the opener, Casey Bryan pitched a five-hit shutout to help Lindsey Wilson blank Cumberlands by a 6-0 margin.
Chelsea Showers reached base safely in each of her four plate appearances, including a fourth-inning solo homer and a two-RBI double in the sixth. She finished 2-for-2, drove in three runs and walked twice.
Amanda Trampe also reached base four times with three doubles and a base on balls, while Jenna Firestein went 3-for-4 with a double and also scored once.
In the pitching circle for the Blue Raiders, Bryan (15-2) earned the victory by scattering five base hits over seven innings. She hit a batter, walked none and struck out four.
Patriot starting pitcher Nicol Chesley (11-5) took the loss in a complete-game effort. She pitched seven innings and allowed a dozen hits and six earned runs. She hit two batters, walked three and struck out four.
During the nightcap, three different Lindsey Wilson batters homered, and Jordan Hood earned a complete-game win as the Blue Raiders topped the Patriots, 11-4.
Showers hit a two-run homer, and Trampe added a solo shot. Andrea Whelan hit a first-pitch grand slam during a nine-run second inning for Lindsey Wilson.
With the Blue Raiders ahead by an 11-1 score, Hood allowed a three-run home run to Bethany Davis in the sixth, but those proved to be the final runs of the day.
Hood (11-2) picked up her 11th victory for Lindsey Wilson as she went the full seven frames. She gave up eight hits, four earned runs and four walks. She struck out nine.
For the Patriots, Davis went 3-for-3 with two homers and drove in four.
Taryn Sigl (1-5) was the losing pitcher after going one-plus inning. She allowed four hits, five earned runs and a walk.
The four-game series will close out with a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at 11 a.m. CT.
