Box Score 2 WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. – The No. 7-ranked Lindsey Wilson softball team closed a four-game road sweep at Cumberlands (Ky.) with a pair of victories on Saturday afternoon.
With two wins over the host Patriots (16-18, 5-15 Mid-South Conference) the Blue Raiders (39-6, 23-3 MSC) stretched their winning streak to 23 games.
In game one, Lindsey Wilson trailed after one complete inning as Bethany Davis homered on a 0-2 pitch from Casey Bryan in the first to put Cumberlands ahead, 1-0.
The Blue Raiders, however, tied the game at 1-1 after a first-pitch solo home run by Sydney Fourman led off the third. Lindsey Wilson would then assume a 2-1 edge later in that inning following an Andrea Whelan RBI double that plated Jenna Firestein.
A five-run fourth and a pair of runs in the fifth accounted for the remainder of the offense during the opener as the Blue Raiders emerged victorious in five innings, 9-1.
During that fourth inning, Travatia Bowden hit a two-run homer, and Chelsea Showers added a three-run shot on a 0-2 count.
In the pitching circle, Bryan (16-2) limited the Patriots to three hits and one run in a complete-game victory. She threw five innings, walked one and struck out three.
Cumberlands game one starter Nicol Chesley (11-6) took the loss. She pitched 3-1/3 innings and gave up five hits and four earned runs. She hit a batter, walked one and struck out three.
During the nightcap, Lindsey Wilson scored in every inning en route to the five-inning 14-1 victory.
At the plate, Bowden and Abbi Goedde each homered for the Blue Raiders. Firestein was 3-for-4 and scored three times, and Amanda Trampe finished with three doubles and four RBIs.
Kaylee James drove in the Patriots' lone run in game two with a run-scoring single in the fifth.
Jordan Hood (12-2) earned the win for Lindsey Wilson with a five-hitter. She surrendered an earned run and a walk while striking out seven.
Ashleigh Hopf (1-5) was the losing pitcher after tossing 1-2/3 innings and allowing eight runs – five earned. She walked none and struck out one batter.
The Blue Raiders play next in a doubleheader at Georgetown (Ky.) on Tuesday beginning at 3 p.m. CT.
