Box Score

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The second-seeded Lindsey Wilson softball team defeated third-seeded Georgetown (Ky.) by a 9-3 margin on Thursday night in the Mid-South Conference Championship Tournament held at Michael O. Buchanon Park.

The Blue Raiders (43-6) notched their second win of the day as well as their 27th-consecutive victory dating back to March 22.

Through three complete innings, Lindsey Wilson held a 3-0 edge over the Tigers (17-17) thanks to a three-run triple by Chelsea Showers. Blue Raider starting pitcher Lyndsey Parden had allowed only a bunt single and struck out six batters.

Georgetown opened its half of the fourth with another bunt single, this one by Emily Snow. The next batter, Shelby Engle, doubled to deep right-center field on a 2-2 pitch for an RBI double.

Following a seven-pitch at-bat that resulted in a lineout, Parden then allowed a single up the middle by Sandy Young. Lindsey Wilson center fielder Showers bobbled the ball, and Engle ended up scoring on the play to now make it a slim 3-2 lead for the Blue Raiders.

After that base hit, Parden was lifted in favor of Casey Bryan. Parden pitched 3-1/3 innings and allowed four hits and two runs – one earned. She walked none and struck out six.

After a sacrifice bunt advanced Sandy Young a base, Bryan struck out Marissa Massie to strand the runner in scoring position.

The bottom of the fourth proved to be a turning point for both teams.

With a runner on first and one down, Jenna Firestein hit a 2-2 pitch to deep left-center field for what ended up as a two-run, inside-the-park home run to put Lindsey Wilson ahead, 5-2.

The next batter, Showers, hit a solo homer on the eighth pitch of her at-bat to increase the Blue Raider edge to 6-2. Later on in the sixth, Lindsey Wilson scored three more runs to move ahead, 9-3, to account for the final score.

Showers finished the game 3-for-3 with five RBIs, two runs scored and a walk. Over the course of two games today, she went 4-for-4 with a three-run homer, a three-run triple, a solo home run and an RBI double as well as three walks.

Leadoff batter Firestein scored three times and also drove in a pair of runs.

For the Tigers, Sandy Young and Katie Young had two hits apiece.

Bryan (18-2) earned the win for the Blue Raiders in a relief appearance. She threw 3-2/3 innings and gave up a pair of hits and one earned run. Bryan struck out three against one walk.

Tiger starting pitcher Sydney Goyette (8-6) took the loss. She pitched four innings and allowed six runs – five earned. Goyette hit a batter and walked four.
