Box Score BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The second-seeded Lindsey Wilson softball team bested fifth-seeded St. Catharine (Ky.) 4-2 in the winner's bracket final of the 2015 Mid-South Conference Tournament on Friday at Michael O. Buchanon Park.
Despite being outhit, 7-5, by the Patriots (19-26), the Blue Raiders (44-6) held tight to earn their 28th-straight win and move within a victory from the tournament title.
To open the game, St. Catharine had a double followed by a single to put runners on second and third with none out. Lindsey Wilson right-hander Casey Bryan, however, forced back-to-back groundouts and then struck out Krystal Cammuse swinging to avert any damage.
In the Blue Raider half of the second, Travatia Bowden sent a 0-1 pitch to deep left-center field for an RBI triple to plate Bailey Mize from first.
Lindsey Wilson scored again in the third. With Chelsea Showers on second and two down, Amanda Trampe hit the 10th pitch of her at-bat down the right-field line for a single to drive home Showers and make it 2-0 in favor of the Blue Raiders.
Lindsey Wilson's final two runs came in the fifth. Jenna Firestein successfully reached base on a bunt hit, and four batters later Mize doubled to deep left field to bring home Firestein and Trampe.
Now leading by a 4-0 score, the Blue Raiders had to withstand a Patriot two-out rally in the sixth.
With two down and a runner on second, Bryan allowed an RBI single to Brittany McKee, and then Christina Day's run-scoring single that cut Lindsey Wilson's advantage to 4-2. Bryan would hunker down to retire the final four St. Catharine batters to seal the victory.
Bryan (19-2) was the winning pitcher with a complete-game outing. She pitched seven innings and allowed seven hits and two runs – one earned. Bryan walked a pair and struck out six.
Cammuse (9-14) took the loss for the Patriots. She also threw a complete game with six innings pitched. Cammuse gave up five hits and four earned runs. She walked five and struck out seven.
The Blue Raiders play next on Saturday against an opponent that has yet to be determined. First pitch is slated for 4 p.m. CT at Buchanon Park.
