BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – A barrage of hits and a stellar pitching performance from Jordan Hood helped propel the Lindsey Wilson softball team to a 9-0 win over St. Catharine (Ky.) in the championship game of the Mid-South Conference Tournament on Saturday at Michael O. Buchanon Park.

The victory gives the Blue Raiders (45-6) their fifth MSC Tournament title in the last six years and extends the program-record winning streak to 29-straight games.

St. Catharine (20-26) played well and fought their way all the way to the championship game as the No. 5 seed, beating top-seeded Campbellsville (Ky.) earlier in the day, but ran out of steam as the Blue Raiders dominated right out of the gate.

Lindsey Wilson scored early and often in the game, notching at least one run in the first five innings including a pair of three-spots in the second and third frames.

The second-seeded Blue Raiders quickly got out to a 1-0 lead in the first after Jenna Firestein reached on a walk and scored just one batter later when Chelsea Showers sent a double deep down the left-field line.

Lindsey Wilson was able to add three runs in the third on a bunt single by Firestein.

After Sydney Fourman reached on a fielder's choice and Brittney Graves singled, Firestein stepped to the plate and laid down a bunt to the pitcher.

Firestein beat out the second baseman attempting to cover to the bag, but St. Catharine starting pitcher Krystal Cammuse still attempted to make a play when her throw sailed over the second baseman's head and into right field. The Patriot right fielder then attempted to throw Firestein out heading to third, but her throw sailed wide as well, allowing Firestein to score to make it 4-0.

The Firestein and Showers duo were at it again in the third when Firestein singled with bases loaded to score one and Showers followed with a two-RBI single to push the lead to 7-0.

Lindsey Wilson added a run in the fourth after Fourman singled to shallow right field and Travatia Bowden raced all the way home from first to make it 8-0.

The final run came in the fifth when Andrea Whelan hit a two-out triple and scored one batter later on an RBI single by Amanda Trampe.

While the Blue Raiders were firing on all cylinders at the plate, Hood was masterful in the circle.

The senior retired 15 of the first 17 batters she faced and did not allow a hit until the sixth inning, just one of two hits allowed all game. Hood (14-2) recorded 12 strikeouts in the win, the sixth time this season she has reached double digits, while earning her 14th complete-game effort of the year.

Cammuse (10-15) took the loss giving up the four runs in the first two innings.

Lindsey Wilson is back in action on May 11 as the Blue Raiders are one of 10 institutions to serve as a host site for the 2015 NAIA National Championship Opening Round.
