Box Score 2 THOMASVILLE, Ga. -- No. 2-ranked Lindsey Wilson softball dropped its first two games of the season today in a doubleheader setback against Thomas (Ga.) at Armory Field.
The Night Hawks (4-2) captured the opener 7-4 and outlasted Lindsey Wilson 7-6 in nine innings in the nightcap.
GAME 1
Thomas scored three runs in the bottom of the first inning and two more in the third off Lindsey Wilson starter Casey Bryan (1-1) en route to the 7-4 win.
Amanda McIver and Cassie Kooker each provided home runs in the game as the Blue Raiders out-hit their host 10-9. McIver blasted a solo homer in the fourth and Kooker hit a two-run home run in the sixth.
Bryan allowed six runs -- four earned -- on seven hits in the loss. Emily Gray pitched the final three innings, allowing one run and two hits.
GAME 2
Missed opportunities and errors equated to the 7-6, game-two loss for the Blue Raiders.
After the two teams each scored a run in the eighth inning with the aid of the international tiebreaker, Lindsey Wilson seized a 6-5 lead in the top of the ninth inning on a Bailey Mize RBI single.
With runners on second and third and no outs, Lindsey Wilson failed to score again in the inning as Thomas pitcher Katie Lopes forced a pair of infield pop-ups and a strikeout.
In the home half of the ninth, Thomas plated two runs on back-to-back Lindsey Wilson errors to end game. The Blue Raiders finished the game committing five miscues leading to three unearned runs in the game.
Morgan Howard led the Blue Raider offense with three hits, including a home run. She also drove in two runs in the game.
Gray suffered the hard-luck loss, allowing three runs, but just one earned, on one hit in 1-2/3 innings. Lyndsey Parden started the game and pitched seven innings, allowing three earned runs on seven hits while striking out six Thomas hitters.
Lindsey Wilson returns to action at 2 p.m. CT on Friday, Feb. 12, as the Blue Raiders host Union (Ky.) in the 2016 home opener at Blue Raider Park.
