No. 2 Softball takes two from Kentucky Christian on Saturday

COLUMBIA, Ky. — Second-ranked Lindsey Wilson Softball swept a doubleheader with Kentucky Christian on Saturday afternoon at Lindsey Wilson Park.

The Blue Raiders (15-7) took game one 3-0 and game two 13-2. Lindsey Wilson's offense smashed 22 hits on the day, while Kentucky Christian (8-7) was held to nine hits in the twin bill.

GAME 1

Callum Pilgrim went three-for-three at the plate, including a home run, and drove in two runs to propel the Blue Raiders to a 3-0 victory in game one against Kentucky Christian.

In the bottom of the first, the Blue Raiders took a quick 1-0 lead when Pilgrim pulled a 2-2 offering over the left field fence for her first home run of the season. Later in the inning, Amber Foukes laced a single to left field scoring Sydney Fourman to put Lindsey Wilson up 2-0.

During the bottom of the second frame, Jenna Fierstein reached base on a single up the middle of the diamond and then collected her fourth stolen base of the year to reach scoring position. Pilgrim came through again with an RBI double down the left field line, chasing home Fierstein.

Casey Bryan started for the Blue Raiders and improved to 7-3 on the year. She tossed six-shutout innings, struck out seven, and held the Knights to four hits. Lyndsey Parden, who came out of the bullpen, pitched a scoreless seventh inning and earned her first save of the season.

Katelyn Miller, who started for the Knights, took the loss and fell to 5-3 on the season.

GAME 2

In game two, the Blue Raiders scored seven runs in the third inning and six runs in the fourth to cruise to a 13-2 victory in a run rule shortened game over Kentucky Christian.

Pilgrim, Fourman, and Amanda McIver each homered for the Blue Raiders. McIver, Pilgrim, and Amy Rogers each collected three RBIs, while Cassie Kooker drove in two.

In the bottom of the third inning, Lindsey Wilson erupted for seven runs on six hits, and was helped out by two Kentucky Christian errors. Pilgrim drove in the first run of the frame with a single through the left side of the infield scoring Cassie Kooker. Fierstein scored the second run of the inning when Bailey Mize singled up the middle. Later in the frame, Rogers came to bat with the bases loaded, and promptly cleared them with a triple down the right field line, which gave the Blue Raiders a 5-0 lead. The final two runs of the inning came on a double by Kooker that scored Rogers and Abbi Goedde, increasing the the lead to 7-0.

After Kentucky Christian scored two runs in the top of the fourth inning to cut the Blue Raider lead to five runs at 7-2, Lindsey Wilson added on with six more runs on five hits in the bottom of the frame, making the score 13-2.

After Fierstein led off with a double and advanced to third, Pilgrim launched her second home run of the day and the season to make the score 9-2. Fourman then crushed a solo shot over the right field fence to make the score 10-2. Foukes then drew a walk and Rogers singled to set the stage for McIver. On a 1-0 pitch, McIver hit a high fly ball that kept carrying and cleared the center field fence for her first home run of the campaign. Foukes and Rogers scored on the play, and Lindsey Wilson increased its advantage to 13-2.

Emily Gray took the circle for Lindsey Wilson and pitched a five inning complete game, while allowing two runs on five hits. Gray improved to 1-1 with the win, and Jenna Edwards picked up the loss, falling to 3-4 for the Knights.

The Blue Raiders return to action with their first Mid-South Conference matchup of the season in a doubleheader against No. 8 Campbellsville (Ky.) on Friday at Lindsey Wilson Park.
