No. 2 Softball splits doubleheader with No. 8 Campbellsville on Friday

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

COLUMBIA, Ky. – Callum Pilgrim delivered a walk-off single in the bottom of the seventh to help the second-ranked Lindsey Wilson softball team salvage a doubleheader split with No. 8-ranked Campbellsville (Ky.) on Friday evening at Lindsey Wilson Park.

With the score tied 1-1 and Blue Raiders on second and third, Pilgrim stepped to the plate to receive a 1-1 offering. The freshman hit a bloop single to left field that landed just in front of a charging Adrean Jordan and allowed Amber Foukes to score the game-winning win from third base.

Lindsey Wilson (16-8, 1-1 Mid-South Conference) lost the first game against Campbellsville (16-7, 1-1 MSC) in a 12-3 run-rule shortened game, before taking game two by a score of 2-1 on Pilgrim's game-winning RBI single.

Pilgrim drove in four runs on the day and Sydney Fourman launched a solo shot for her team-leading eighth home run of the season.

GAME 1

The Tigers struck early and often in the first game and the Blue Raiders were never able to recover. Lindsey Wilson surrendered 11 runs in the first three innings, including a seven-run third inning for Campbellsville.

The Blue Raiders showed some life in the bottom of the third. Amy Rogers reached base on a walk, followed by Cassie Kooker, who reached safely after an error by a Tiger defender. Jenna Firestein then executed a perfect bunt to load the bases for Pilgrim.

After fouling off the first two pitches she faced, Pilgrim squared up the 0-2 offering for a long single to left centerfield that went over the outstretched glove of the Tigers' leftfielder. The ball rolled towards the fence chasing home both Rogers and Kooker to make the score 11-2.

The Tigers added one more run in the top of the fourth to extend their lead to 12-2.

The Blue Raiders attempted to fight back one more time in the bottom of the fifth. Cooker and Firestein reached base on back-to-back singles to once again set the stage for Pilgrim. She laced a single up the middle of the diamond scoring Kooker for Lindsey Wilson's third run of the game, but the Blue Raiders were unable to extend the inning as the game ended after five complete due to the run rule.

Starting pitcher Casey Bryan fell to 7-5 on the season for Lindsey Wilson, while Victoria Decker improved to 8-4 on the year.

GAME 2

The Blue Raiders won game two behind strong pitching from Lyndsey Parden and timely hitting from Pilgrim and Fourman.

Parden allowed one run in the top of the second inning to put Lindsey Wilson in a 1-0 hole, but held the Tigers scoreless the rest of the game.

The Blue Raiders remained down 1-0 until the bottom of the sixth, when Fourman came to bat. With one out and the bases empty, Fourman connected on a 3-2 pitch for a home run that cleared the centerfield fence. Fourman's eighth home run of the campaign knotted the score at 1-1 going into the seventh.

Parden sat down Campbellsville in order in the top of the seventh as Lindsey Wilson came to bat with a chance to win the game.

After the first batter struck out to start the inning, pinch hitter Abbi Goedde singled to shallow centerfield. The next batter then flied out in foul territory and the Tigers were one out away from getting out of the inning unscathed, but Firestein and Pilgrim had other plans.

With Firestein at the plate, Foukes, who pinch ran for Goedde, advanced to second base after a pick-off attempt from the catcher eluded the first baseman. Firestein promptly singled through the hole between third base and shortstop to advance Foukes to third before Pilgrim delivered her game-winning hit.

Parden went the distance while striking out a season-high 11 batters to improve to 8-2 on the season for Lindsey Wilson. Neeley Quint fell to 8-3 on the year for the Tigers.

Lindsey Wilson and Campbellsville conclude their four-game series with a doubleheader starting at noon CT on Saturday at Lindsey Wilson Park.
