No. 11 Softball sweeps Pikeville in the first two games of weekend series, 9-1 and 4-1

PIKEVILLE, Ky. -- The 11th-ranked Lindsey Wilson softball picked up two more Mid-South Conference victories on Friday afternoon as they defeated Pikeville (Ky.), 9-1 and 4-1, in the first two games of the weekend road series.

Amber Foukes paced the Blue Raiders (20-10, 5-3 MSC) going 4-for-6 at the plate and scored a pair of runs. Cassie Kooker was 3-for-8 in the two games, while driving in four runs and scoring once. Sydney Fourman, Morgan Howard and Amanda McIver all hit homeruns against the Bears (7-14, 1-5 MSC) in the first game on Friday.

Game 1 - Lindsey Wilson 9, Pikeville 1

After a scoreless first inning, the Blue Raiders got the scoring started in the top half of the second inning. Foukes singled to left field to start the inning and Howard then moved Foukes to second base with a sacrifice bunt. After Amy Rogers walked to put runners on first and second base, Kooker hit a double to left field to score the first two run of the game to give Lindsey Wilson a 2-0 lead.

In the third inning, Fourman was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning and just one batter later, McIver hit a homerun to left center field to tack on two more runs for the Blue Raiders. Foukes followed the McIver with a double down the right field line and Howard gave Lindsey Wilson a 5-0 lead with a double to left field.

The Blue Raiders loaded the bases with one out in the third inning after the Howard single, a single from Rogers and walk from Jenna Firestein. Kooker drove in her third run of the game with a single to centerfield. Lindsey Wilson looked to add on to their lead, but they were unable to push any more runs across as they left the bases loaded in the top of the third inning.

Pikeville tried to get on the board in the home half of the third inning, but Lyndsey Parden was able to get out of a bases loaded jam unscathed to keep the 6-0 Blue Raider lead intact.

Lindsey Wilson added on to their lead after Fourman started the top of the sixth inning with solo homerun to centerfield.

In the seventh inning, Howard started the inning with a solo homerun to left field and Rogers followed with a double to right field. Rogers then scored on a Pikeville error to give the Blue Raiders a 9-0 lead heading into the bottom of the seventh inning.

The Bears scored one run in the bottom of the seventh inning, but Lindsey Wilson won the game 9-1.

Parden (11-3) capped off her complete-game as she allowed just one run on seven hits, while striking out nine batters.

Game 2 - Lindsey Wilson 4, Pikeville 1

The Blue Raiders got off to strong start to in the first inning in the second half of the doubleheader as they score three runs in the inning. Kooker reached base with on a walk and after Lindsey Wilson got their second out of the inning, Fourman reached on another walk.

With two runners on first and third base and two outs in the inning, Bailey Mize reached on an error while Kooker scored from third base on the play. McIver singled to left to the load the bases for Lindsey Wilson. Fourman scored on a passed ball to give the Blue Raiders a 2-0 lead. Foukes drew a walk to reload the bases and Abbi Goedde followed with a single to left field to drive in the third run of the inning for Lindsey Wilson.

The Bears were able to counter with one run in the home half of the first inning after a leadoff single followed by a double scored one run for Pikeville. The Bears looked to continue to cut into their deficit, but they left a runner on base in the inning.

Over the next four innings, both teams looked to add onto their run total, but they were able to do so as neither team scored until Lindsey Wilson tacked one more run in the sixth inning. Over the four inning span, the Blue Raiders left six runners stranded on base, compared to seven from the Bears.

In the sixth inning, Firestein led off with a double to centerfield and Kooker moved Firestein to third base with a sacrifice bunt. Callum Pilgrim drove in Firestein from third base with a sacrifice fly to left field. Lindsey Wilson threated to add on to their lead but they left runners stranded on second and third base.

Casey Bryan (8-6) was able to pitch all seven innings as she allowed just one run on 10 hits, while striking out four batters.

Lindsey Wilson remains in third place in the MSC standings with a record of 5-3 and they sit behind Campbellsville (Ky.) and Georgetown (Ky.), who are tied atop the standings at 7-1.

The Blue Raiders complete the weekend series against Pikeville on Saturday with game one of the doubleheader starting at 11 a.m. CT.
