Box Score 2 ST. CATHARINE, Ky. -- The ninth-ranked Lindsey Wilson softball team swept Mid-South Conference foe, St. Catharine (Ky.), on Tuesday to move their winning streak to eight games. The Blue Raiders won 13-0 in the first game of the doubleheader and they finished off the day with an 8-0 victory in game two.
Sydney Fourman went 2-for-3 at the plate over the two games as she drove in 4 RBIs. Amber Foukes was 5-for-8 on the day with a combined 4 RBIs. Casey Bryan and Lyndsey Parden each threw complete-game shutouts for the Blue Raiders (24-10, 9-3 MSC).
Game 1 - Lindsey Wilson 13, St. Catharine 0
Lindsey Wilson got off to a strong start as Jenna Firestein led off the game with a walk and Callum Pilgrim reached on an error to place runners at first and second base with one out in the top of the first inning. Fourman hit a three-run homerun to right field to put the Blue Raiders up 3-0.
In the fourth inning, the Cassie Kooker increased the Lindsey Wilson lead to 5-0 after she hit a two-run homerun to left field. Amy Rogers, who walked earlier in the inning, scored on Kooker's homerun.
The hot bats continued for the Blue Raiders in the top of the fifth inning as they plated eight runs in the inning. Amanda McIver started the inning with a single and Foukes bunted for a base hit to put runners on first and second base. Rogers hit into a fielder's choice as she reached first base, while McIver moved over to third base.
With two outs in the fifth inning, Lindsey Wilson started their rally as Firestein drove in McIver with a single and Kooker followed with another single to load the bases. Pilgrim reached base on another Patriot (16-18, 3-9 MSC) error and Rogers was able to score from third base on the play. Fourman drew a bases loaded walk to score Firestein and Bailey Mize was then hit by a pitch to put the Blue Raiders up 9-0.
McIver singled for the second time in the inning and she drove in Pilgrim and Fourman. Foukes hit a single up the middle to score Mize, while Abbi Goedde kept the rally going with a single to reload the bases. Rogers capped of the scoring in the inning with a single up the middle to score McIver as the Lindsey Wilson took a 13-0 lead into the bottom of the fifth inning.
Bryan (10-6) closed the door on the Patriots as she retired the side in order to secure a 13-0 win for the Blue Raiders. Bryan pitched all five innings allowing just three hits, while striking out six batters as she posted her fourth shutout of the season.
Game 2 - Lindsey Wilson 8, St. Catharine 0
To start the second game of the doubleheader, Firestein led off with a single and Kooker bunted for a base hit. One batter later, Fourman was hit by a pitch to load the bases with one out in the first inning. Firestein stole home later in the inning to get the Blue Raiders on the board.
Parden got out of a bases loaded jam unscathed in the bottom of the first inning to keep Lindsey Wilson up 1-0 after one inning of play.
Foukes reached base on an error to start the second inning and Morgan Howard moved Foukes over to third base with a sacrifice bunt. After Rogers was walked, Firestein bunted for a base hit and loaded the bases for Lindsey Wilson.
The Blue Raiders took a 2-0 lead after Kooker grounded out to second base to score Foukes from third base.
After a pair of walks to start the third inning, Foukes singled up the middle to score Fourman from second base. Howard was then walked to load the bases for Lindsey Wilson and Rogers followed with another walk to bring home Mize from third base.
A single from Kooker drove in Howard, while Rogers scored on the play after an error from St. Catharine to cap off the four-run inning for the Blue Raiders.
After a scoreless three innings from Lindsey Wilson, they took a 6-0 lead into the seventh inning. McIver started the top half of the seventh inning with a single, and Foukes hit a two-run homerun out to left field to put the Blue Raiders ahead, 8-0.
Parden (13-3) sealed the 8-0 victory for Lindsey Wilson as she struck out the final two batters of the game. Parden's complete-game shutout was her sixth shutout of the season as she struck out a season-high 13 batters.
The Blue Raiders continue their Mid-South Conference schedule on Friday as they start a four-game series at home with Georgetown (Ky.) starting at 3 p.m. CT.
