No. 2 Softball takes two from Bryan on Tuesday, 4-1 and 8-0

COLUMBIA, Ky. – The second-ranked Lindsey Wilson softball team swept receiving votes Bryan (Tenn.) in a doubleheader on Tuesday, 4-1 and 8-0, at Lindsey Wilson Park.

Callum Pilgrim led the Blue Raider (13-5) offense going 5-for-7 at the plate, while driving in two runs. Sydney Fourman hit a homerun and drove in three runs in game two of the doubleheader. Casey Bryan picked up the win in game one going all seven innings allowing just one run on five hits. Lyndsey Parden threw a complete-game shutout in the second game against the Lions (8-6).

Game 1 – Lindsey Wilson 4, Bryan 1

The Lindsey Wilson offense scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning and Bryan (6-3) pitched a complete game to defeat Bryan, 4-1, in the first game of the doubleheader.

The Blue Raiders tallied five hits and four runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to take a 4-1 lead. Amanda McIver drove in the first Blue Raider run with a single that scored pinch runner Kaylee Russell. Amy Rogers rocketed a double to left center scoring pinch runner Natalie Bertram and McIver. Callum Pilgrim collected an RBI single that scored Rogers for the fourth and final run of the inning.

The run support was more than enough for Bryan, who after allowing one run in the third, settled down to pitch the complete game while holding Bryan to five hits. She improved to 6-3 on the season, and Kaitie Sims took the loss for the Lions. Sims falls to 4-3 on the year.

Game 2 – Lindsey Wilson 8, Bryan 0

In the second game of the doubleheader, the Blue Raiders were shutout for the first two innings of the game, but their bats got hot in the third inning. Rogers started off the inning with a double off the wall, and after a Brittney Graves walked, Rogers came around to score after the Lion second basemen misplayed a grounder hit by Jenna Firestein. Pilgrim hit a bloop single down the right field line to drive in Graves.

Lindsey Wilson kept their run going as Firestein scored on a wild pitch. After recording their first out in the inning, the Blue Raiders scored on another Bryan error. Lindsey Wilson was unable to extend their lead in the inning as they left the bases loaded.

In the fourth inning, the Blue Raiders were able to extend their lead as a leadoff double from Firestein started a three-run inning. Mize drove in Firestein with an RBI single through the right side of the infield. Fourman capped of the scoring in the fourth inning with a homerun to centerfield, which drove in two runs for Lindsey Wilson.

The Blue Raiders won the game in five innings, 8-0.

In the five inning game, Parden (7-1) went all five innings allowing just two hits, while striking out seven batters. Parden threw her fourth shutout of the season and lowered her ERA to 1.11 on the season.

With the victory on Tuesday, the Blue Raiders extended their home winning streak to 27 games.

Lindsey Wilson returns to action on Friday afternoon as they host Kentucky Christian for a doubleheader starting at 3 p.m. CT.
