Box Score 2 COLUMBIA, Ky. – The ninth-ranked Lindsey Wilson softball team picked up two more Mid-South Conference wins on Saturday as they defeated Georgetown (Ky.), 7-4 and 12-5, to complete the weekend series sweep.
Jenna Firestein helped the Blue Raiders (28-10, 13-3 MSC) to the sweep as she went 4-for-6 at the plate while scoring five times in the two games. Callum Pilgrim drove in four runs – all coming in the second game – and she went 5-for-8 on the day against the Tigers (19-15, 10-6 MSC).
Game 1 - Lindsey Wilson 7, Georgetown 4
Georgetown got on the board first as a leadoff single from the Tigers came around to score just two batters later.
Lindsey Wilson started the second inning with back-to-back singles from Amanda McIver and Amber Foukes. A walk from Abbi Goedde loaded the base for the Blue Raiders and Amy Rogers then drove in McIver with a sacrifice fly to right-centerfield. Firestein gave Lindsey Wilson the lead with an infield single to score Foukes from third base.
After the Blue Raiders took the 2-1 lead in the second inning neither team was able to score until the fifth inning.
In the fifth inning, the Lindsey Wilson was able to put together a two-out rally. With Firestein at second base, Sydney Fourman singled to left-centerfield to drive in Firestein. Bailey Mize then followed with a double to right-center to score Kaylee Russell, who came into pinch run for Fourman. A single from McIver put runners at second and third after McIver was able to move up on the throw to third base.
Foukes capped off the inning with a single through left side of the infield to score one run and put the Blue Raiders up 5-1 after five innings of play.
The Tigers countered with two runs in the sixth inning, both coming with two outs in the inning.
Lindsey Wilson answered with two runs in the home half of the sixth inning as Rogers walked and Firestein bunted for a base hit to start the inning. After the next two batters were retired for the Blue Raiders, Fourman delivered a double down the left field line to score Rogers and Firestein.
With the Tigers trailing 7-3 to start the seventh inning, Corrin Robinson homered to left field to make it a three-run game, but Casey Bryan was able to retire the next three batters to secure the 7-4 victory for Lindsey Wilson.
Bryan (12-6) pitched a complete game, allowing four runs – three earned – on seven hits. Bryan also recorded six strikeouts in the game, while surrendering just one walk.
Game 2 – Lindsey Wilson 12, Georgetown 5
Georgetown took another early lead, as Chaselyn Allgeier started the game with a home run to left field to put the Tigers up 1-0.
The Lindsey Wilson offense continued to stay hot as Firestein hit a double out to left-centerfield to start the bottom of the first inning for the Blue Raiders. Cassie Kooker laid down a sacrifice bunt to push Firestein to third base and Pilgrim hit the ball back up the middle to score Firestein.
Fourman was then walked and Mize was hit by a pitch to load the bases for Lindsey Wilson. McIver reached on a fielder's choice, and Georgetown tried to get the lead runner out at home plate, but Pilgrim was able to score after a missed catch from the Tigers. The Blue Raiders were unable to increase their lead as they left the bases loaded.
Morgan Howard delivered a single through the left side of the infield and Firestein was walked to put runners on first second base to start the second inning. With one out in the inning, Pilgrim hit a three-run home run out left field to put the Blue Raiders up 5-1.
After a single from Fourman, Mize hit the second home run of the inning for Lindsey Wilson as she put a ball over the left field fence.
The Tigers were able to get one run back in the top of the third inning, but the Blue Raiders countered with two runs of their own in the bottom of the inning. Kooker was able to send a ball out to left-centerfield to score Howard and Firestein.
With Lindsey Wilson holding a 9-2 lead, Georgetown was able to pull within four runs as they scored three runs in the top of the fourth inning.
The long ball continued to be the difference maker for the Blue Raiders in the second game of the doubleheader as Goedde delivered a two-run home run out to left field to give Lindsey Wilson an 11-5 lead.
In the home half of the fifth inning, Pilgrim delivered a one-out single and Fourman followed with a single of her own, but she was thrown out trying to stretch her base hit into a double. Mize drove in Pilgrim from third base to put the Blue Raiders up 12-5.
Lyndsey Parden (15-3) held the Tigers scoreless over the final two innings, as Lindsey Wilson won the second game of the doubleheader, 12-5.
Parden pitched all seven innings, allowing five runs – two earned – on three hits in the game, while recording seven strikeouts.
The Blue Raiders have won their last 12 games, all of which came in conference play.
Next up for Lindsey Wilson is a doubleheader against Cumberland (Tenn.) on Tuesday at 3 p.m. CT at Lindsey Wilson Park.
