Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

PORTSMOUTH, Ohio — No. 6 Lindsey Wilson Softball swept a doubleheader from Shawnee State (Ohio) on Tuesday at Boone Coleman Field. The Blue Raiders took game one, 8-5 (10 innings), and game two, 2-1.

The Blue Raiders (38-10, 23-3 MSC) extended their winning streak to 22 games by defeating Shawnee State (11-31, 4-22 MSC). The streak dates back to March 22.

GAME 1

The Blue Raiders left 15 runners on base and made three errors in the field, but the pitching of Casey Bryan and timely hitting by Abbi Goedde, Jenna Firestein, Sydney Fourman, and Bailey Mize proved to be enough as Lindsey Wilson outlasted Shawnee State, 8-5, in game one.

Bryan (17-6) tossed 9-1/3 innings while surrendering no earned runs on seven hits to pick up the win.

Goedde went 3-for-6 with a double and three RBIs, Fourman launched her NAIA-leading 17th home run of the season, Firestein went 4-for-6, including an inside-the-park home run, with two runs scored, and Mize went 4-for-6 with two runs scored and two RBIs.

In the top of the second, Goedde connected for a two-out RBI single that scored Mize and gave Lindsey Wilson a 1-0 lead.

One inning later, Fourman extended Lindsey Wilson's lead to 2-0 with an opposite-field solo home run.

Bryan was cruising, but the Blue Raider defense made back-to-back errors to start the bottom of the fifth, and an infield single loaded the bases for the Bears. Shawnee State then executed three-straight safety squeeze plays to perfection. Lindsey Wilson was unable to make an out on on the three bunts, and when the dust had settled, the Bears had taken a 3-2 lead without the ball ever leaving the infield. Bryan was able to retire the next two batters to end the inning.

The Blue Raiders were unable to score in the sixth after getting a runner to second base with nobody out, but in the top of the seventh, Firestein came up big.

Leading off the inning, Firestein hit an inside-the-park home run to tie the game at 3-3. The home run was the first of the season for Firestein. The Blue Raiders had a chance to take the lead, but stranded runners on first and third to end the seventh.

Lindsey Wilson had another chance to break the tie in the top of the eighth when they loaded the bases with two out, but were once again unable to get the big hit.

Bryan did her part and stifled the Bears offense to keep the score tied.

In the top of the 10th, Mize came through with a hit with runners in scoring position. With the bases loaded and two out, she connected for a two-run single that scored Firestein and Amy Rogers to give the Blue Raiders a 5-3 lead.

Lindsey Wilson scored its sixth run on a Shawnee State error setting the stage for Goedde. She came to the plate and laced a single to left field that chased home Brittney Graves and Mize to increase the lead to 8-3.

Shawnee State attempted to claw its way back into the game in the bottom of the 10th. The Bears scored two-runs to make the score 8-5, but Parden, who entered the game with one out in the ninth, shut the door to secure the game one victory.

Morgan Conrad (6-14), who came into the game in relief, picked up the loss after surrendering five runs, including four unearned runs, in 2-2/3 innings. Miranda Pauley, who did not factor into the decision, started for the Bears and gave up three runs on 11 hits over 7-1/3 innings.

Cassie Kooker's 26-game hitting streak came to an end in game one.

Game 2

Lindsey Wilson scored single runs in the first and second innings, and Parden pitched a complete game as the Blue Raiders won game two over the Bears, 2-1.

Callum Pilgrim and Firestein drove in the Blue Raider runs.

In the top of the first, Firestein singled, advanced to second, and then moved to third on a groundout. Pilgrim lifted a fly ball to centerfield that was deep enough to score the fleet-footed Firestein on a sacrifice fly and put the Blue Raiders up, 1-0.

One inning later, it was Firestein's turn to pick up the RBI. She came to bat with the bases loaded and worked a walk to force in a run. Mize strolled home to make the score 2-0.

That was all the offense Lindsey Wilson would need.

Parden (20-3) gave up a single run in the bottom of the third, but nothing else. She scattered eight hits, walked two, and struck out five in her seven-inning complete-game performance.

Conrad (6-15), who also went the distance, surrendered two runs on five hits to pick up her second loss of the day for Shawnee State.

After their were a total of seven errors in game one, neither team made a fielding miscue in game two.

The Blue Raiders and the Bears conclude their four-game MSC series with a doubleheader on Wednesday at Boone Coleman Field in Portsmouth, Ohio at noon CT.
