Box Score

MOBILE, Ala. – The Lindsey Wilson women's tennis team opened play at the NAIA National Championship Tournament with a 5-1 Second Round victory over LSU-Alexandria (La.) on Wednesday evening at the Mobile Tennis Complex.

After multiple delays due to heavy rain and slick courts, No. 3-ranked Lindsey Wilson (19-4) finally took the court around 6 p.m. CT against the Generals after the match was originally scheduled to be contested at 9 a.m. CT. The first round of games were pushed back a day due to the weather issues, forcing the first two rounds of action to be played on the same day. No. 19-ranked LSU-Alexandria (12-7) defeated Keiser (Fla.) earlier in the day prior to taking on the Blue Raiders.

The Blue Raiders and Generals split the first two doubles points after Alex Shchipakina and Maria Prados Cid won the No. 3 match 8-1 over Betsabe Vasquez and Nicollette Uscocovich, and Henar Munoz and Natalia Kattah fell 8-1 at the top flight to Sara Andrade and Gisela Amor. In the second-seeded doubles match, Jessica King and Fiona Curty were able to outlast Paula Gordilla and Claudia van der Brin 9-8 (7-4) to give the Blue Raiders the 2-1 edge heading into singles play.

Once in singles play, Munoz, Shchipakina and Curty all collected wins in their matches to give the Blue Raiders the 5-1 victory. Munoz won 6-3, 6-4 at the top singles flight, Shchipakina won 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2, and Curty won 6-0, 6-2 at No. 6 to seal the victory.

The victory sends the Blue Raiders into the NAIA National Quarterfinals for the fifth season in a row where they will meet No. 6-ranked Cardinal Stritch (Wis.) on Thursday at 9 a.m. CT.
